Confirmed on BBC's Breaking News Twitter account. Very sad.

I'll just repeat what I said in here, very sad news. The Good Life was one of my favourite programmes as a kid, and he always seemed like a nice chap. RIP.

I remember him more as a voice actor, either in Roobarb (and latterly ...and Custard Too) or in Watership Down.

I'm going to watch Hamlet tonight. I've needed an excuse. Sad that this is the excuse, though.

We shared the same birthday. Growing up with him on screen, he was always a bit of a hero. RIP Richard.

I watched Cockneys vs. Zombies the other night and whilst it wasn't very good, he was easily the best thing in it. He was one of 'those' actors, I guess - consistently watchable and someone I would have very much liked to be my grandad.

He also claimed to have smoked over half a million cigarettes which is pretty impressive even if it did kill him.

I was more of an Ever Decreasing Circles fan myself - his character Martin was a wonderfully strange creation.

R.I.P. Richard - a true great of whatever form he tried his hand at, a master of TV, cinema and the stage, the world will be a sadder place following his loss.

A great shame emphysema stopped him doing what he loved in the last few years. Goodbye Rhubarb.

Release wise his last film is the Danny Dyer 'comedy' Run For Your Wife, the poor sod.

I loved Richard Briers, I remember watching his sitcoms a lot when I was a kid. I was a fan of his voice-over work too, Roobarb and Alias The Jester especially. He had a great voice.

RIP, Mr Briers.

Mr Briers was brilliant in all the films that Kenneth Branagh put him in. He wasn't just a British TV / sitcom actor... check him out in 'Much Ado About Nothing' if you want to see him at his best.
