 Most people on this forum like to complain about movies and the choices made by studios/directors etc. Now it's time to put your money where your mouth is.

Scenario: Some insane movie mogul has given you $150m and carte blanche to make any movie you want to with it.

Rules:
1) You must direct it yourself, although you may get someone else to write it if you want

2) You must use the money for the movie - you can't keep it for yourself, and that goes for any of the budget you don't spend on the movie.

3) You can only make one movie, not two or three smaller ones

4) Assume any actors/writers you desire are willing to participate in the film.

5) No copyright restrictions - you have free reign to adapt, remake or make a sequel to anything.

6) No porn movies - it'd be too easy just to hire Mila Kunis and Scarlett Johansson for a two-hour shagfest.

What do you make? A proper Star Wars prequel? A remake of Cuthroat Island? Or that long-gestating project you've had in mind in which zombies battle aliens?

Boo - my immediate thought was Stephen King's Dark Tower series, although admittedly with that budget it would be laughable.

Hmm, it's a very good question! I will think and come back...

I'd make a documentary called "The Life and Times of Hood_Man and his Incredible Wealth," and I wouldn't be too concerned about releasing it

 Easy - a movie based on Neil Gaiman's comic The Sandman, probably a 150 minute adaptation of the first two books. Can't think of too much casting right now, but Leonardo DiCaprio as the Corinthian - naturally.

Actually I'd adapt this:



I loved this book when I was a teenager, and in fact I still read it occasionally now. Anything that mixes Greek Mythology with videogames is a sure fire winner, and I'd be very surprised if this isn't adapted into a film one day.

The two sequels were kinda lame though. Even though the dealt with vampires and vikings, they just weren't as fun or as magical as the first one.

Needs a a big budget, but it would make a great film (and series of films) I always thought Dennis Quaid for Jonas Taylor but sadly since watching him in that Vegas TV show thing the other night, it appears he's been dead a few years and just runs on batteries now.

James Franco as Jesse
Either Colin Farrell or Michael Fassbender as Cassidy (They'd both be good)
Amber heard maybe for Tulip or Jennifer Lawrence if we can make her look a tad older.
Tommy Lee Jones Or David Morrisey as The saint of killers (One has the haggered face and talent the other has erm- he's fucking awsome)
Orlando Bloom as arse Face.
Christoph Waltz as Scarr

and I shall convince the coen brothers to write it with me. and then direct while I sit around and either produce or take lots of coke and produce.

After much thought - and sticking with Neil Gaiman - I'd go for the novel he co-wrote with Terry Pratchett, Good Omens. I'd need a fairly big effects budget so would probably avoid casting huge pay-hungry stars and stick with talented but little-known actors.

It would make them.

DiCaprio's dramatically cut his fee as a favour to me - we're close personal friends.

 I've always wanted to see a big budget, Roland Emmerich style film set in England. Not London though. Somewhere like Birmingham or Bristol. I'm not too sure what type of disaster though, could be anything I guess.

Well either that or I'd make Porno, the sequel to Trainspotting.

Adapt the first two Dark Tower books as one three-hour film with Viggo Mortenson as Roland.

Failing that (Since it would probably cost a bajillion dollars), a proper adaptation of The Island of Doctor Moreau.

 I'd have a few options, because in my mind I'm a filmmaker. Who knows, maybe one day it'll actually be more than in my mind.

The first one I'd like to do is like a cross between Blade Runner and James Bond, with a globetrotting government agent in a future, cyberpunk world.
The second is a martial arts epic starring some of the current biggest stars of the genre (including Iko Uwais, Tony Jaa and Jeeja Yanin)... except I'd also hire proper English-speaking actors so that people don't spend every moment a non-asian person is on-screen cringing at how awful the performances are.
The third would be an epic samurai movie that focuses on any point in Japanese history from Oda Nobunaga's first battle until the aftermath of the Battle Of Sekigahara, similar in scope to Red Cliff.

And the fourth would be an adaptation of this:

I still reckon a decently funded TV series (hello HBO) is the only way to go as far as Sandman goes. I just don't think a series of films would do it justice unless you could get 4 or 5 of them greenlit.

I'd also go down the Neil Gaiman route though, seeing as you're making Good Omens I'd go ahead and make American Gods seeing as there's been no update on the mooted HBO mini series. Not too sure about the casting though. Morgan Freeman would make a good Mr Nancy and I can picture Jackie Earl Haley as Mad Sweeney. The main roles are a bit harder though, maybe Ian McKellen for Wednesday. In my head Shadow didn't look too disimilar to Dwayne Johnson but I don't think he's got the acting chops to pull it off.

Gears of War adaptation before Len Wiseman gets his clutches into it, focusing largely on the events of E-day and the sinking of Jacinto and other cities.

Cast:

Marcus - Hugh Jackman (doesn't have the voice, but has the physicality and charimsa)
Dom - Karl Urban or Jon Hamm
Cole - Lester Speight
Baird - Ryan Reynolds
Hoffman - Alan Arkin or Bryan Cranston
Anya - Jennifer Lawrence
RAAM - Andy Serkis (mocapped)
Maria - Anne Hathaway
Anthony Carmine - undecided
Queen Myrrah - Lena Heady (maybe a bit obvious but can't think of anyone else right now)
And I'd chuck Christoph Waltz in there somewhere

Written by myself, Guillermo Del Tory and Aaron Sorkin. Del Toro because he seems to understand adaptation and loves monsters, and Sorkin because it would put him out of his comfort zone while still lending some cracking dialogue (thinking of Baird in particular).

Cinematography by Roger Deakins.

OST by John Murphy as well as using original tracks from the game.

Either that or an epic western starring all of my favourite actors and actresses. Yep.

Gaiman once mentioned in a radio interview that Johnson actually pursued the rights for AG for a few years. But like you I can't picture him in the role.

It would have to be the long overdue sequel to Trainspotting, Porno.
All the original cast returning although i think only Danny Boyle could do it justice in the directors chair.

there is a book i read some years ago which i think would make a good film.
written by Micheal Moorcock and called Behold the Man.
Spoilers below if you haven't read it.

it's the story of a chap who goes back in time to find Jesus and does but he finds out that Jesus is an imbecile and never carried out any of the things people said he did. in the end of the book he gets crucified instead of Jesus.

i've always thought it would make a bloody good film

My idea for a film is something that's been rattling about in my head for years. I'd love to write it but I don't think I've got it in me.

The basic premise is that one day for no reason each state of the USA wakes up speaking a different language.

My theory is that America is only united by their common language and if that was removed they'd be at war within a year.

I haven;t worked out what the resolution is or how it plays out but the idea's strong.

So basically the story from the old testament of the tower of babel.

The trouble is explaining the premise convicingly - almost all of them is a bit deus ex machina.

Also the population in USA is not evenly distributed, so California would probably quickly move in most of the western part.
