I've seen most of the noms so far! I expect this to fall apart the moment the bigger categories turn up.

Surprised Shame missed out on an editing nod as well.

50/50

Holy hell, supporting actor's a bit cramped!

And 5/11 Best Pictures nominees seen; I'll aim to watch as many as possible before the votes deadline (When is that by the way?)

I'm appalled and disgusted that my girlfriend Kristen Wiig hasn't been nominated for screenplay and actress. INJUSTICE!

However, Olsen and Hawkes getting nominated is very excellent indeed. Fassbender's cock should have been nominated.

GWTDT and Tree of Life are getting far more nominations than I expected. I really hope Fincher doesn't get a director nom for the remake?

Fincher was actually the director I mentioned, doing really well in best director voting while the film was incredibly low.

I was going to ask what people wanted? I know there was a few people who mentioned not getting time to see some of the films before voting, so I thought I'd see what everyone thought was fair. I don't want it to be too long, how does a week sound to everyone? In the meantime, people who don't need to do a lot of rewatches could make a start on the next year's ballot if they liked.

A week's fine by me.

As a general heads-up, I've found Submarine and Tyrannosaur on Lovefilm instant.

Anyone with Lovefilm access should check out both, excellent films.

Ok, we'll call the deadline a week from today. Just send me your vote for the winner in each category.

In the meantime, if anyone wants to start on the next lot of nominations, here's the eligibility list.

http://www.andtheoscargoesto.com/askoscar/drl.php?yr=83

For your consideration in all categories, with the special bonus of annoying the hell out of Elab if you vote for it - The Town.

Why would you do that? It was bad enough Renner's cut-price Pesci impersonation got a nomination proper.

How come Of Gods And Men appears in the eligible foreign film list for the 83rd Oscars but we have it in the 84th in other categories?

Because it didn't get its American release until the following year. It was put forward for the foreign language Oscar that year, but it didn't get nominated. If it had been, it wouldn't have been eligible the next year.

Bit difficult for me - of Gods and Men AND Confessions go head to head.

This is an obvious question but Micmacs appears in the reminder list for the 83rd Oscars so we can vote for that in whatever we feel like except foreign language film?

This is really annoying. I've seen 5 foreign language films from this year but only one is actually eligible for that category and that alone, yet the other 4 are all eligible for everything but foreign language. It's madness!

Well I remain unenthused by the majority of these nominations, not a huge fan of Hugo and though I think Tree of Life improves momentously on a second viewing, eh. The Artist is mediocre and didn’t stand up on second viewing; it’s not a terrible film but not a particularly good one either. No surprise seeing TTSS or Drive both superb films or to see Potter in the technical categories but it feels like a dull choice but hey I’m not a big fan of the series so what do I know. Arthur Christmas

I didn’t think much of either Young Adult or 50/50 with the exception of Oswald and Shame though good again did very little for me and finished 58th in my list last year. Shame no love for Take Shelter (Lead Actor among others), Le Havre, Mysteries of Lisbon, Uncle Boonmee, Coriolanus (Actor, Supporting Actress, Screenplay) Blackthorn (Lead Actor), Meek’s Cutoff or Margaret (Film, Director, Lead Actress…) oh and not one of my supporting actresses got a sniff.

I really want to see A Simple Life.

Rawls I sent my votes via PM.

So for clarification - any nominations I gave it for the year we're currently voting on, I can also give for the next year we're doing?

No - in the year it only got a foreign film nomination you can only nominate it for that. It has to be on the full eligibility list - is the American release - for everything else.

Oh, OK.

I knew that was familiar when I was going through them - I've put it on my Sky + from my Radio Times review. Dogtooth is also on Film 4 quite a lot.

And evne if people aren't thinking of voting for foreign film I really do recommend renting Confessions (or buying) - it's a fantastic film.

Completely not. Just vote for them anyway.

I'm going to offer an experiment. Does anyone want to try voting outside of the eligibility list for next year? Eligibility list as the main guide, but anything with an imdb year of 2010 would be eligible, unless it appeared on the Oscar eligibility list for 2011/2012. That way people wouldn't have to feel pressured into researching what films were possible outside of the guideline list, but they can if they want to. I'd also then be willing to expand eligibility for the foreign list to any non American films made in that year.

What do you all say?
