As you film fanatics may know, the mind-bending Wachowskis and Run Lola Run’s Tom Tykwer are back in cinemas this year with the century-spanning opus, Cloud Atlas. Telling six different stories across six different time frames, it’s a visual feast which should inspire you into new feats of creativity.

…Which brings us to our competition. To celebrate the release of the movie, the directors themselves are asking you beautiful, talented Empire art-folk to design a Cloud Atlas poster worthy of their new film.

Watch the video here to see an exclusive recruitment message from the Wachowskis and start thinking comets, clones and clouds – then get designing to be in with a chance to win an 16GB iPad HD! You can find out more about Cloud Atlas over at the Facebook page.

The competition will run until February 24. Cloud Atlas will be dazzling our local cinemas on February 22.

edit:just saw the trailer again.The imagination is certainly let-off the leash in this upcoming film.
Seems tough to pin it down at the moment.

Whilst I'm confident that a gorgeous hand drawn entry will win, I still enter these competitions in vain, simply because I love them!
I haven't tried to focus on any characters or storyline from the film as I think that is pretty hard to do without copying the official poster, so I've gone for something a bit left field and focussed on a quote from the film where our lives are not our own, so the image suggests that it's all controlled and in someone elses head. Can't wait to see it!

I cant wait to see CLOUD ATLAS in IMAX

Oh My Just seen the Release Dates for CLOUD ATLAS in the UK - I SO hope the site has it wrong but hardly any theatres are listed yet -

I Hope this is wrong and that it gets a full General release including an IMAX blanket release


With this in mind I have updated my entry and posted it to Facebook ;-)

Here is my first Cloud Atlas-related entry, but hopefully not my last! Enjoy! Unfortunately the full sized image was just too damn large to embed here, so I had to resize it to a tiny size. Oh well, enjoy!
P.S. Does entries HAVE to be a poster per se, or can it be Cloud Atlas related artwork or sketches?

Here is my first Cloud Atlas Poster. One of the themes of Cloud Atlas is how our lives are interconnected with those of others throughout eternity, so I thought I'd show the connection between two of the incarnations of Halle Berry's characters - Luisa Rey and Meronym.

Everything is connected!

And now for Jim Broadbent - my favourite character in the film, and in my opinion one of the most entertaining! Shown here is the connection of two characters he plays - Vyvyan (pronounced Vivien) Ayrs and Timothy Cavendish (gotta love Timothy Cavendish!)!

That's bloody brilliant. How did you add colour - manually or via a digital program like Illustrator or Photoshop?

It's not just that your illustrations are great; I love the whole design and composition. It works really well.

Don't do yourself down cawykes - while the above is indeed a superb piece of art I really think your first red piece nails the brief very cleverly- it would certainly be my choice so far
