Epic Poll - Generally speaking any movie with a large, ensemble cast, lush photography, large-scale battle scenes and to a lesser extent an extended running time. This description works for most historical epics, etc. There's also a lot of war movies that can fall under this category, and one comic book movie (The Dark Knight Rises can be accepted but not Batman Begins and The Dark Knight). Some fantasy could be included, but not all (The Lord Of The Rings is a given, obviously). I'm not sure yet whether I'd also include the crime epic or the epic western which seem to have a far looser definition, and in any case are being covered in other polls already. There are also martial arts epics that fit the description above in all but one or two ways (I consider Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon an epic, even though the fights are mostly one-on-one). Oh, and Princess Mononoke would definitely be included.

Sci-Fi Poll - Movies or TV episodes. Anything from The Prestige to Akira would be valid, and I think Iron Man and The Avengers that are strongly sci-fi influenced should be allowed, too, but that may change. Perhaps books, too.

Spy/Espionage/Government Operative Poll - James Bond. Jason Bourne. Evelyn Salt. Austin Powers... pretty self-explanatory.

Martial Arts Poll - Again, pretty self-explanatory. Although this one shouldn't include films about sports, even if the sport itself could be considered a martial art.

Batman Stories Poll - This is the one I'm most skeptical of many people being interested in, but I'm currently compiling my own list anyway, and if there were enough interest I'd change my plans to make it a poll. Basically, all media is covered, comics, film, animation (features, or individual episodes... though two part episodes would count as one) and video game stories. The many spin-off books would also be valid, even if the stories you're voting for don't include Batman himself. I'm right now debating as to whether I'd include big events like Knightfall all as one story, or break them up into the individual stories that make up the greater whole. To allow myself and others to catch up, the deadline for this one would be further in the future than the previous ones.

If there'd be any interest in any of these, let me know, and I'll get started on one or two of them (if you have any interest in one that I don't end up doing, please feel free to start it up yourself).

The sci-fi poll was done quite recently (think in the last year) by Gimli. The problem you might have with a martial arts poll is number of voters/size of lists. When we did the Asian poll, we obviously got a fair number of martial arts films included, but if memory serves we didn't get as many lists as for the British poll. I'd say you could face the same problem with the spy poll, some voters would have a wide knowledge, some will only know Bourne and Bond. Epic poll would probably be your best chance of a decent number of lists.

I'm up for any poll in which I can put LOTR at the top spot, so I'd be happy for an epic one.

Yeah, I think epic has the best chance of getting a good number of lists.

Someone should draw up a masterlist of polls we haven't done yet, so people can have a selection if they want to try and run one. In addition to the ones mentioned here, there's westerns, musicals, Rhubarb tried a romance poll but I don't think he got enough lists, TRM tried a debut poll with the same result, adventure, war, biographical/true story, porn , a more general drama poll. What else is there?

I'm in a Les Mis mood at the moment and I've been thinking of doing a musical poll, having people vote for both film and their favourite songs from the film and running run the lists together

It took one of the worst films of the last 12 months to inspire a musical poll. That's bad.

I'd be interested in doing a musical poll. And yes, Les Mis will likely be on it.

Well I thought about it months ago and forgot. It only came back to me when One Day More finished. I wanted to get up and cheer but instead remembered that we haven't done a musical poll.

Are you going to allow animated musicals?

I'd be interested in an epic poll too .

Was there ever a 2000s poll? 'Cause if not I'd like to run one of those.

TRM and I have been running through the decades and done 80s, pre 30s, 70s and now 50s, we didn't get up as far as 2000s. It's ok with me if you want to take the 2000s, but you might want to make sure TRM wasn't planning to ask to do that as the next one.

I'm claiming the 60s before anyone asks.

If the Epic Poll is a success, and no one's gotten to it first, I might have a shot at a 90's one, too.

I will, but I'll leave it for a bit. Don't want everyone to get polled out.

Was thinking this over, and you have a point. So I'm going to push back the dates on all the polls I'm doing. So I'll have one ending in February and then being put up through March, while that's going up, people can put together lists for the next poll. So out of the four I was doing, any have a preference for which one should finish this month? The third year of the top 1000, the weird poll, the teen list or the 00s performances one?

I'm going to say the 00's performance poll. I have a rough Top 30 Male and Top 20 Female performances ready to go, just needs a bit of re-editing. My Top 1000 and weird lists are getting there but not quite and I haven't even started on the teen list

Edit: Glad I haven't sent in my performances list yet, nearly forgot to vote for Amy Ryan in Gone Baby Gone!

I haven't started to compile any yet so I don't really mind

Ok, well I'll go for the performances poll to finish End of Feb, put that up throughout March, with an end of March deadline for the weird poll, then that can go up through April, with an end of April deadline for the teen poll, that goes up through May - End of May for the 1000 list.
