Hopkins is more entertaining(chew that scenery!), but Cox is creepier and gives a better performence overall.

Fuck Hopkins grandstanding! Brian Cox makes Lecktor far more interesting, creepy, intelligent and plain evil that any of Hopkins panto villain schtick. The whole film pisses on Silence, which looks like a TV movie by comparison. William Petersen is magnetic, Dennis Farina is in fine powerhouse mode and Tom Noonan is just inspired casting. Even the synth soundtrack is perfect, plus it's got In A Gadda Da Vida for the climax! What more can mere mortals ask for? Further proof that Mann is a genius and a film way ahead of it's time.

God's t'riffic!

A masterpiece unlike the over rated SOTL. Brian Cox is brilliant unlike the panto performance by Hopkins. But please could some1 talk MANN into editing that appalingly dated song off the end it is so unlike the rest of the film. This could possibly enter my top 10 american films of the 80s.

Stylish, scary, smart. Mann's take on Red Dragon is very 80s but still translates well and is still scary. The villain is still scary and terrifying nearly 25 years later.
