It has been announced that the skeleton found underneath a Leicester car park last year is, indeed, that of Richard III.

As a University of Leicester student, whose archaeological staff and students played a pivotal role in the process, this is a big thing for the university and the city itself.

It is an incredible discovery. But while further research may not quite prove him to be the monster that Shakespeare painted him as, he was very probably involved in the murder of his young nephews.

Anyone spotting a small story a couple of days ago would have known that Leicester CC had spoiled it for everyone - they bought out a lease beside the car park apparently to develop a visitor centre. So clearly they'd been told.

As for the Princes? Woodville's actions are odd if he did - and it's remarkably difficult to untangle truth from Tudor lies, spun to give them a justification/entitlement for taking the throne.

And what's more, if you can find a single Monarch anywhere in the world from this period of history who was a pleasant person, I'd be very surprised.

I once stepped in a Richard the Third in a car park. Didn't feel the need to write a PhD on it, just wiped my shoe clean.

The DNA results hould be interesting but it's a pity they can't identify his male lineage.

Its interesting to think that had he survived at Bosworth Field (he was winning, Henry Percy's actions probably caused Richards defeat) we would probably have a completely different Royal family right now. Not Royals with German ancestry who don't actually have a real claim to the throne of England. There was much jiggery pokery for many many years after Richard fell and Henry Tudor took over, leading to rulers from all over.

Good job it was always good solid middle-English stock with no non-English ancestry till then.

Apart from the Danes.

And the Normans.

And the French.

Or York claiming legitimacy through someone born in Holland.

Apart from that - totally English.

How annoying was that lady from the Richard the Third Society though. Crying all the flaming time, and the bit at the end with the reconstructed face - gross, man, just gross!

Well...the Danes only ruled for a very short time, one year to be precise, from 1013 to 1014. When you say the Normans and French, well the Normans were French, they came from Normandy with William the Conquerer. Overall the majority of rulers before Richard III were English, but Richard was the last true English King before Tudor rule and then a whole host of different folk.

The 'true Brit' argument is tiresome in the extreme. We are a mongrel race, and therein lay our strength and longevity. To claim otherwise is myopic and inaccurate and more than a little xenophobic.

My we are adding strings to our bow. (Arrow humour.)

The Normans were their own people who were descended from Norse Vikings. Their name means 'north man' or 'Norseman'.

Wait a fucking second, how can anyone not know that the Normans were descendents from the Norse Vikings pretty that much invaded northern France and the inhabitants within it before mixing with them and "becoming" French (which could be considered far later after William)? Maybe I'm being too cruel, but the Normans being Norse is pretty much known even by me, but maybe I'm being again cruel since the Normans play a pivotal role in Malta's history since they conquered Malta from the Arabs and expelled the Muslims later on.

Actually no, do you know how many nations in Eurasia (or other countries in other continents) throughout history had or have had a monarchy whose origin or ancestry came from that own nation or ethnicity or group without any sort of mix throughout history? More then quite a few. What I'm saying is this is nonsense. The House of Plantagenuet wasn't exactly totally "English" either. Oh and the Danes ruled more then one year and had some 4 rulers. Other then Forkbeard, there was Cnut (son of Forkbeard who defeated Ironside), Harefoot and Harthacnut. Saint Edward wasn't totally Ango-Saxon blooded either.

Also, why true English king? Doesn't what we call and consider the United Kingdom today also feature prominently Scots, some Irish and the Welsh for a huge part of its history? What wrong with the Tudors (other then having the appalling existential condition known as born Welsh and a spotty career as monarchs) being kings or queens? Is there something wrong with this?

EDIT: My mistake, the Muslims were all expelled by the Swabians, but everyone here forgets we were under their rule because FUCK SWABIANS

Anyone who can say that he is the "Son of Forkbeard who defeated Ironside" is definitely an awesome human being, that's way too many awesome words, nicknames and surnames in those qoutation marks.

Though his name has the unfortunate implication of being accidentally typed "Cunt" (another word for matty_b I've been told) should a typo ever occur.

I'm taking this statement as your tacit admission that Vikings actually are awesome and you were wrong to think otherwise.

One Viking being awesome does not equate to Vikings on the whole being awesome.

My proof is Pathfinder. Norwegian Pathfinder was with Sampis and Chudes and it is awesome. Remake Pathfinder was with Vikings and Native Americans and it sucked. Clear proof with no logical fallicies that I am right and consistent AND THIS CANNOT BE DISCUSSED
