 The Football Weekly lot have a conversation about this the other week but I felt they forgot some important examples of names you just love to say. I've always been partial to saying Mesut Ozil because it just sounds so great. So I spoke to my mate about this and we came to the conclusion that the Germans have the best names to say. My current favourite is Holger Badstuber. Just say it. Holger Badstuber. Lovely.

Anyone else got some favourites?

Despite the fact this is the campest thread in Grandstand, I'll join in,

Ian Ormondroyd.
"sticks" will always be a legend in my eyes, so tall and gangly he made Crouch look like Warwick Davies, but he played with a smile on his face, scored some great goals and amazingly was never picked for England.
I made the last bit up. It's true, he never got picked for Enlgand, but there's nothing amazing about it.

I love how much the real discussion on Grandstand has died over the years, we have a big match fixing scandal going on and no thread has been created, but a thread about footballers names you love to repeat to yourself? Yep we've got it.

That said I don't think there is/has been/ever will be a better name in football than Zinadine Zidane.

Some good ones here - I agree with Alessandro Del Piero and Jean-Pierre Papin.

I quite like the French names, David Trezeguet and Thierry Henry (which I swear I heard Alex Ferguson mangle into Terry Henry during France '98).

There was a player for Cameroon during Italia '90 called Mackanackie (sp?), I was pretty young but I remember my mum shouting "Come on, Mackanackie!" at the telly with great relish during that tournament. Particularly when Cameroon played England.

Being a Celtic fan I'll always have a special place in my heart for our Brazilian (not-quite-)sensation Raphael Scheidt. Though I suspect the Rangers fans got more out of that buy than we did.
