1. Not feeling like the protagonist is in genuine peril is not unique to this film - I find it a difficult criticism to support because it's a necessary narrative point in 99% of action adventure films. If you're referring to a perceived lack of threat posed by the antagonists, it's deliberately undermined by the use of comedy (the legend 'cleaning lady' spiel). which is why it's a comedy first and an action film second. 2. It's subjective so I can't say anything. but I honestly don't see this is as being broader than any of Wright's previous films. 3. The whole premise of the film is that Scott is unable to perceive the world without a pop-cultural/video game prism to refract it through (Spaced is predicated on the exact same premise). If they toned down the video game thing or did it half-cocked, it would have missed the point completely. finally, here's a photo of Mary Winstead implying 'dude wtf man'
