From what I've read, Olympus Has Fallen has quite a limited budget, but throws everything on the screen.

I'd be interested to see how White House Down (which I've read has almost triple the budget) looks in comparison. Also, it's not going to be as 'R' rated as this one.

Will be very interesting to compare the two. But like I said, all I want is a rollicking actioner in the vein of Air Force One. And if not one of the POTUSs says "Get out of my house" before blowing the bad guy out of the back of the Oval Office with an RPG, I'll want my money back.

I'm interested to see how differently Emmerich's plays out and how much larger the scale is. Bring on the trailer for that.

OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN does look pretty good.

But, then again, don't they all...

As for the Emmerich film, after 2012, I wouldn't trust him to film my home movies...

Woah, woah, woah - a film where the White House is attacked by North Koreans and then defeated by an all-American secret service agent who plays by his own rules is potentially a bit jingoistic?

Get the fuck out of here!

As someone else had pointed out in the thread for the "White House Down" trailer, both movies lend much of their ideas from Vince Flynn's novel "Tranfer of power" from 1999.

It's rather astonishing that it took Hollywood that long to come up with the "Die Hard in the White House" idea.

Am I the only one who thinks that either of these two films should have been Die Hard 5 (or 4)?

You are not (see below)

That said, I was watching the Olympus Has Fallen trailer the other day and spent the entire time cursing that it wasn't the latest Die Hard flick. You could have pretty much have transplanted A Good Day To Die Hard into the White House scenario. John's son is part of the secret service (instead of the CIA) and get's old dad a tour round the White House as a favour (let's pretend their relationship is fine at this point), whilst McClane is there all fucking hell breaks loose.

Could have made for quite a decent, albeit extremely hokey Die Hard flick that! Instead we got that mess in Russia, which I can barely remember it was so utterly forgettable!

24 season 7 just a few years ago ? Jack Bauer vs a bunch of terrorists who attack and take over the white house. It was only a three episode arc though.

I've just watched the trailers for both, and they do look real fucking BAD-ASS.

I might just wait and get them on Blu Ray, and do a double bill.

Isn't there a six month gap between cinema releases over here. That's a long wait

Both films look like decent popcorn actioner fare if a little thick on the old flag waving but I guess that's only to be expected in films about the White House.

However North Korean terrorists hey? That seems very precognesent of Hollywood, considering the current "issues" with that country. We've had the "Muslims\Middle East terrorists are evil" line for years in films but now that that region is pretty much done and dusted, it looks like NK will be the new go to guys for villany.

Not really on the precognesent - it's what they changed the new Red Dawn to quite some time ago as well. They need to sell too much to China to use them anymore.

It looks like 'Olympus Has Fallen' is a moderate US hit.

I will still wager that it's gonna be a better film than 'White House Down'. Again, I reiterate that after 2012, Mr Emmerich should be never allowed to direct a film ever again...

Have my tickets booked for next Wednesday but having just seen the trailer on the big screen........the cgi looks terrible and needlessly abundant. My money is on 'White House Down' being the better film.

2 stars from Empire. They usually give dumb as fuck action movies a hard time but from the sound of the actual review it does sound like its really shite.

I put my review over in Reader's Reviews, but I think it's save to say that if you liked stuff like Air Force One, you're going to get a fairly large kick out of this.

Thoroughly recommended.

I like Die Hard style action movies but thought Air Force One was colossal shite.

Might give OHF a dvd rental in a few months time.
