Put the controversy to one side, this Zero Dark Thirty is a great OST by Alexandre Desplat who seems to work on the basis that if you thrown enough work out there at least some of it will be great. Mr Desplat can be rather prolific, maybe too prolific ( this is his seventh OST in 2012 and he released the same amount in 2011 ) John Williams he is not. Since I'm on the subject of his output can I recommend one of his earlier soundtracks "The Girl with the Pearl Earing" its a highly under rated 5 out 5 soundtrack, stiring evocative and quite stunning in part. If the track "Colours in the Clouds," for exmaple doesnt move you, check your pulse. Back to the the ZDT soundtrack, its far edger than some of his other work ( fess up, I havent listened to his entire back catalouge ) some tracks "Seals Take Off " for exmaple sound very Bond-ish ( Im thinking more Arnold as apposed to Barry ) other tracks fusion strings with Arabic traits setting a dark and dramatic tone through out, much like the movie i assume. Stand out tracks included Maya on Plane, Towers, Back to Base.
