A very strong round, I was a little worried about an obvious winner at first, because one film had a number of people looking to nominate it. But then another two films were nominated multiple times as well. A few more obscure titles in there as well, along with the bigger names, so there's the possibility of a few surprises.


I'm struggling at the moment. Only seen 2. But I have flights to Moscow and Tel Aviv coming up in the next month. So that should give me ample opportunities to catch up

Anyway, La Ronde - very stylish and clever, but I think it caught me on the wrong day. I couldn't connect with the rhythm of it and was left admiring it rather than loving it. I can imagine that it's a completely different experience if you're in the right mood for it, however.

There are a few forumites mothers that prefer my taste to yours .

I thought Cranes was alright but it just left me cold. Beyond some striking visuals and the beauty of Tatyana Samajlova there wasn't much there that stuck in my mind afterwards.

Anyway, I've got La Ronde and The Shop Around The Corner ready to watch and once I'm done with them I'll have my list in.

It certainly is for me. It's one of those rare films that I find I can watch over and over and it still comes up fresh every time.

 Seen my first two.

La Ronde I think I took to it in the same way as Matty. I knew it was good film but it never clicked for me. The best bits were the scenes involving Anton Walbrook.


When I first watched La Belle et la Bete four years ago I wrote the following...

"The dreamlike quality of this film is excellent, really helping to create an atmosphere, and the fantasy elements of the castle, the living objects, are also supremely well done. Still, there’s too much posturing from the male cast, histrionics from the female, and the central relationship just never convinces. Then there’s the remarkably convenient teleporting glove (!) and the fact that I guffawed when I first saw the beast. Give me Disney’s version any day of the week. That still manages to make me laugh, makes me cry, gets my pulse racing and send shivers down my spine 17 years after I first saw it. This one I just watched"

This time the good stuff wasn't as good and the bad stuff was worse. Safe to say this won't make my top 6.

It seems to be, yeah. So if anyone doesn't want to import the R1 they should probably jump on it asap.


Just started to watch this and after about 4 minutes it becomes increasingly out of synch. I've tried it on a few browsers so I guess it's the vid itself. Anybody else try this link and have this problem?

Unless it's a fault at my end that can be fixed it's pretty unwatchable. Amazon, here I come.

 Having now see it it's almost certainly a film I'll be getting on DVD at some point. The cinematography was most impressive. As matty mention earlier, the bombing sequence was tremendous but the whole thing look superb. Two soldiers trudging through mud has never looked so good.

Rewatches of Them! and Sherlock Jr confirm their placement in my list of all-time favourites.

6 to go, my own nomination up next I think.
