Hi,

I'm going to have the house to myself for a few hours and I can't decide what to rent from iTunes.

I'm in the mood for fantasy - sword and sorcery type, though they don't have to both be present.

I've got a few in mind :-

1) The Three Musketeers (2011)
2) Immortals
3) Snow White and the Huntsman

There is also Ninja Assassin and The Raid, but they seem on the grim side.

Which of these would you guys recommend?

Or can you guys suggest something else?

Cheers.

I was just about to click "rent" on THE RAID and my sister phoned.

She wants to see it too, so I have to wait.

So I watched IMMORTAL instead - good fashioned fun with no sense nor meaning to it, just what I hoped. :)

THE RAID will get watched over the holidays though, so thanks for the recommendation.

Does anyone know of a film were Henry Cavill gets to show of his acting though?

The only other one of his movies I've seen is THE COLD LIGHT OF DAY - it was fun too, but not "wow!!'".

The Raid has an Unrated version in the US, but the running time seems to be the same as the the rated version.

Anybody know what this is about?

Is our version the same as the Unrated in the US?

Wow, I was really frustrated by it all, I found the wall paper pattern more interesting. Having said that though, lately most of the mythology type films have been a let down. Clash of Titans was wholly terrible bar the giant scorpions and I couldnt get beyond 15 mins of the sequel.

The golden oldies proved that they can be done, but lately they seem a bit soulless.

It wasn't spectacular in regards to the story or characters, but it did feel like one of those oldies you mention - back when they all the rage - just with more violence, ass shots and bollock hammering. :)

I've have a fondness for fantasy films at this time of year and I'm always glad to see one that is better than those SyFy movies like The Jabberwock or Danny Glover's Moby Dick Dragon Movie - which it is...

It copied too much of the style of 300 though with the slow-mo.

Plus, I wanted another look at Cavill before Superman.

I need to find a movie that required him to act though.

Yeah the bollock hammering was fairly memorable.

Id not heard of Cavil before he was Superman and Cold Light of Day got hammered despite an interesting cast so I wouldnt hold out for much just yet. He looks the part for superman though definately.

Immortals and Cold Light are his only starring roles.

Cold Light predictable but good - Cavill didn't play the role in the way it is usually done - he played as a guy who is really in over his head and constantly afraid. He did a decent job of carrying the movie.

Weaver was good at the end - I'll say no more ;)

Hi,

A slight adjustment to my request - I need a few suggestions for other fantasy/sword and sandals movies to watch.

So far I've thought of -

1) Snow White and the Huntsman - is the extended version on iTunes worth a look?
2) The Sorcerer's Apprentice
3) Detective Dee and the Phantom Flame

I have already seen the LOTR TRILOGY and.RED CLIFF.

Can't anyone give me more ideas?

Cheers.

Thanks. I've seen the the first three, but I haven't seen Eye of the Tiger and only a small bit of 7th Voyage.

Cheers.

I'm pretty sure it's just differences in the soundtrack or something like that, for some reason they called it the unrated version.

Cant you just masturbate like everyone else?.

Seriously tho!. do not watch Immortals! or Snow White!. My job is done, I could leave now......however

Going by your mood and that list, watch Musketeers, its not too bad and fits your requirements!

Ninja Assassin is pretty grim and cheap, I wish I hadn't bothered

The Raid is intensely grim and violent in all the right ways. Great movie!
