I just saw that mentioned - didn't realise it was so early. I'm guessing it's absence from your list means this is a first view? I'd guess it'll be right up your street. It was one I watched with the Curzon on demand service.

Showing also has Father Christmas and The Bear

Yeah, haven't had chance to see it yet but really looking forward to it.

That's even more cruel.

So good, right? Managed to catch it twice. First time was better, as I was ushering for the screening the second time, but the first time I was right in the middle of the theatre in the middle row in front a fucking massive screen, and I swear to good New York I Love You and All My Friends were bona fide spiritual experiences. Weirdest film I've cried in. And, I mean, I saw Amour the same night as I first saw Shut Up and Play the Hits. I didn't expect to be crying again.

Thank you Rawls & Elab for your suggestions. Yeah the hogmanay release looks like the way forward so I'll try & lovefilm it when it does come out. Was hoping there would be a kind of on demand option but never mind.

Being a bit of an LCD/DFA geek, I should also probably check this out before I submit my list.

Although not now. it may be the quickest thing, if they have it. might be HMV on demand next Monday? It might be one they put on.

No you're not. It's currently on my shortlist of 23.

But will it make the final 20?

I haven't seen it, but I have a lot of friends who are really into film and one of them saw it at the NZIFF, and he did not like it - I believe his line was, "This is the film version of The Proclaimers' '500 Miles'," which I still find pretty hilarious.

Does it seem more laboured if you find out that probably only occurred to him as the song is used as a joke in the film? Which was a pretty good use.

A less good use - inexplicably being used to persuade us that Anna Kendrick has a future in music production, when they play 'her' dreadful bloody mess of a mix.of the song in Pitch Perfect.

He told me that too, and I'm pretty sure that prompted the line above - he did not take to its use as a joke or otherwise.

Is it because The Proclaimers seem like some unearthly futuristic band to the inhabitants of Little Australia?

Why would The Angel's Share seem like an 'unearthly futuristic' film? Are you suggesting that he didn't take to it because The Proclaimers were just way ahead of their time or something? Do you love The Proclaimers?

did this joke make sense in your head because it's not making sense here

It's suggesting that you're so culturally deprived in New Zealand that The Proclaimers seem unearthly and futuristic.

But that doesn't make sense unless you're also suggesting Scotland and The Angel's Share are unearthly and futuristic because that's what the initial comparison was.

I think you just love The Proclaimers and are trying to defend them personally

If you live in NZ, Scotland is unearthly and futuristic. What with the indoor plumbing and all. Your country is backwards, just accept it.

It's alright if you like The Proclaimers, bro. I mean, everyone else thinks they're shit, but you want to use them as an example of the development of Scottish music, that's totally fine. That's what taste is. It's subjective.

Even if you like something shit like The Proclaimers.

That's a bit of an odd way to put it. He might not think it was a very good joke which is fair enough. But he didn't think it was a joke is a bit odd. It was. It was there to make you smile (if you found it funny).

The Proclaimers, Scotland's greatest cultural gift to the world since The Krankies.

So is that based on the overuse of two particular songs or a good working knowledge of their studio albums?

The implication of my post was meant to be he did not think it was a funny joke or anything else - I can see why that might not have been clear but eh.

Also rawlinson good thing you've got the Enemy of Film on your side now eh, good to see that Proclaimers lovers can still find each other on this earth, though they are few and far between and though 500 Miles and I'm On My Way are played so relentlessly at Scottish pubs the world over, creating new haters with every generation

Has anyone ever heard of any NZ songs anyone might remotely have heard of so we can throw the joke back?

No? Oh.

Well, she's right about it being a stupid joke and not representative of the quality of the film. But I think my Krankies reference should tell everyone what I think of The Proclaimers.

Tennant stops being my man-crush whenever he talks about music. He was defending Coldplay that time he hosted Buzzcocks.
