Anybody here seen Elena? How is it? I have it at my disposal, I just need some motivation to watch it.

There's a lot of oddness about Margaret in terms of release and I'm not sure it ever got more than a limited showing beyond London, no more than a festival equivalent. IMDB seems to back that up and I can't find anything that suggests anything else.

I don't think it was generally available in the UK until 2012, and that was a DVD release rather than theatrical? In that case I'm happy that this was really only able to be added to anyone's list this year under the festival rule (which effectively takes in London only releases so I think that's fair).

I distinctly remember it being released in an Edinburgh cinema this time last year. I would remember as I wanted to see it, but couldn't due to my horrible financial situation at the time.

Furthermore, it was out up here a good three to four weeks before the Artist was on general release - which as we know - only really appeared in a cinema outside London until the first week of 2012.

So if Rawls is allowed to have Margaret, Rebel Scum should be allowed to have the Artist.

Or they can have neither?

You want to vote for The Artist don't you? It's slightly better than DKR anyway. Only slightly though.

My top 25 is as follows (because every year I cause problems). My number one would totally have been A Separation but it got a limited (non-festival) release here a year after it got such in the UK so fuck you guys. The Deep Blue Sea and Attack the Block would've been up there too. Again, fuck you guys.

There's a couple I'll have to check but they may get through for the same reason Camino did. No isn't really released here till next year (Jan I think) but it did have festival showings this year (I'd to miss the one in Leeds so I know it was on) so it would be allowed. I know I Wish is on in Glasgow in Jan/early Feb because I commented on that and Wolf Children in a short run they're doing. I think it's the first time I've seen it anywhere here though unless it was on at the LFF.

Can anyone tell me if Alois Nebel has a release date for the UK?

Ignore that, ordered it on DVD.

I'd been waiting from it since (Qwerty I think?) had it in another list. But it's fine for this year because the DVD seems to have been the only more widespread accessible release.

Alois Nebel is excellent, really woozy, dreamlike animation and narrative logic to it. I was initially skeptical but it won me round pretty easily.

See this, rawlinson? I cause problems. Genuine problems. Because my choices are so alternative. And look at you, with your Jason Patric films and your Lena Dunham films and your forum-favourite documentaries and your mainstream stuff. You're so...normal.

Hand in your hipster card. I'll be needing it now.

Trying to order those films would probably require that I spend more time thinking about them than I can be arsed to. I'll use that time to try and see if I can convince myself to put The Angels' Share or Ruby Sparks in the top spot.

I've edited in The Hobbit. I don't know how I could have forgotten it.

I was a bit disappointed by Grabbers, I'm sad to say.

I'm sad to report Elab that Grabbers isn't getting a release around these parts.

Are you aware of there being another way to view it? (legally)

By the time that got here it'll be on DVD anyway - the UK release is Hogmanay.

Not that Tower Records weren't pretty quick - it's where we got the DVDs from - but with Xmas hols and post and all. I think picking it up a week on Monday might be quicker.

Doesn't look like we're getting it either and Cineworld ignored my query.

Also,  the Uk cover is much better IMO.

DVD or cinema Rawlinson?

Should I tell you know I'll be watching The Snowman in the cinema tomorrow? Would that be cruel and boastful?
