I loved the original trilogy and they are on my annual watch list however I thought the Hobbit was mostly excruciating!.The scene with Golum was excellent , the rest of the movie felt like Fraggle Rock 2000

Release date for the DVD is 19th March as stated on the official website:~

Ta Da!

I'm really surprised at how early that seems. Not that I'm complaining at all.

Maybe it's earlier to give more time before the Extended Edition is out (I'm guessing at around the same time as Desolation hits cinemas)?
I think most people will be waiting for that, anyway, though.

I'll be buying both versions. just like last time! March does seem very early, just three months from cinema release. I remember it felt like a lifetime before FOTR reached DVD.

Well it now seems that the US of A will be getting The Hobbit before us (meaning the rest of the world). It will be released in the UK on the 8th April. Why oh why is it not same world-wide release date like most other films?!

It makes no sense that different countries have different release dates. You have to wonder what the reason is. Still, I'm thinking I might just wait for the trilogy next autumn instead of buying them individually. Of course I might change my mind when I actually see it on the shelf...

I adored this film. The visuals were beautiful and I loved the begining that showed the preparations of Bilbo's birthday right before Frodo went to see Gandalf.
The scene between Gollum and Bilbo was excellent.
The whole thing was great. And first time watching it I immediatley heard the Wilhelm scream when they were escaping from the Goblins.
