I carefully used the term "favourite" instead of "best", because I'm pretty sure it'd turn into an argument about how none of them are the best. Anyway... here goes:

They didn't release new albums this year, but gotta mention Adele for 'Skyfall' and The Rolling Stones for 'Doom And Gloom', too. Both great songs.

I haven't heard it, no - there's a few albums I need to get round to this year so I'm paying close attention to the various lists and stuff. the Flying Lotus album is the second AOTY he's made in the last three years for me, different from Cosmogramma but just as brilliant (though I thought 2010 was a better year all round than this year). the Tame Impala album was pretty underwhelming though imo, not bad or anything but not nearly as good as I was expecting. Just okay, I suppose.

Fiona's new one is going to do pretty damn well on a lot of end of year lists I sense. I loved Cosmogramma so I really need to get onto FlyLo's latest and have you heard their first album? Which did you prefer?

My feelings on the first album are much the same really, serviceable but nothing particularly mindblowing - I get that people who are more into that kind of retro-influenced psych rock thing would get a lot more out of it than me, to be honest. Lonerism is a better album for sure, but I was told to expect Soft Bulletin/Dusk at Cubist Castle levels of greatness and all I got was a good but not great record. I'll give it another few listens to see if I'm possibly missing something though.

I agree with you on one level, people have built Tame Impala up way too much. Especially here in Oz, some magazines/blogs use them as a masturbatory aid and build them up as the one of the greatest Aussie bands of the last decade. Granted, Innerspeaker and their EP are great though (at least to me). I'll give Lonerism a try soon hopefully if Spotify decides to work for me again.
