 I can't remember which film it was.

I'd just handed in my notice and work and my boss went off on one and told me to leave. So, with my head scrambled, I walked to the cinema and saw an early screening of something that killed a few hours.

I was 25.

Can't for the life of me remember the film.

my first film i saw on my own was Big Trouble in Little China. i was 12 and remember seeing the trailer and thought it looked pretty good.

I enjoy the cinema so much more when I'm on my own. I get awkward about people around us being dicks when I'm with other people, whereas on my own I just move or, in extreme circumstances, leave. At uni, I spent most of my free time in the cinema, so I got very used to seeing a lot of crap on my own!

The first time I ever saw a film on my own, though, was just after I got an Unlimited card. I was meeting friends in the evening, and realised that since I could see as many films as I liked, I might as well see one on my own beforehand. And that film was, the remake of The Wicker Man!!! Never looked back.

Unless you didn't see it in the UK.

Never been on my own. Ever.

I see nothing wrong with going on your own at all, I've just never had reason to.

Ever since I was about 13 I've gone to the cinema with the exact same friend almost without fail, week in, week out. He's not quite as film mad as I am, but he's always been perfectly happy to trundle along and sit and watch absolutely anything that catches either one of our's attention.

We're now in our thirties and still do the same each week (assuming there's something on), it's a nice way to catch up, we take turns to drive, talk about the last week or so, both sit utterly silent for 2-3 hours and then talk about how awesome/shite the film was on the way home.

It's our once a week bromance night, my girlfriend just has to deal!

 There used to be a cinema here which specialised in screening classic films (sadly, long gone), and the first time I went on my own was to see a Marx Brothers double bill of Animal Crackers and Duck Soup. I think I was about twelve at the time.

 Hmm, I think it was for Miami Vice. I wasn't too impressed by it all, and i couldn't understand a word Gong Li was saying. The only thing i took away from the film on a positive, was Colin Farell's magnificent 'tache!

Airplane - I would have been about 12 or 13 at the time. Me and a group of mates from school used to go to see it quite a lot, there was a small cinema in Birmingham called the cine-centre on Holloway Circus, which used to show family films in the day and porn in the evening.

The one time there was just 4 or 5 of us and an old man in a dirty mac sat on his own on the other side of the auditorium, I think he must have wondered into the wrong film and then decided to stay just in case one of us wondered off to the toilet on our own!

Innocent times they were!

 Back in 2002, I truanted an afternoon of high school to go to a completely empty screening of 24 Hour Party People.

It was at that point I realised the potential of seeing things during the day - freed from the shackles of seeing cinema trips as a purely social excursion.

To this day it's a habit I've maintained. There's no way I would have seen the same amount every year had I waited for a friend/girlfriend/family member every time I wanted to see something.

 TRON (original), and there were about 6 other people there.
And this was when cinemas were still popular, before video...I enjoyed it at the time.

EDIT: although it may have actually been The Dark Crystal, both were around the same time.

 Erm, Goldmember! Cause my then-boyfriend refused to go with me (I think he was embarrassed by the name, the big jessie). It was great, the cinema was packed and I laughed my ass off.

I used to enjoy going on my own in the mornings when I was a student, it was half price and the place was deserted; it was so peaceful. I do think it's better without someone wittering in your ear, you can really get absorbed. But then everyone else turns up in couples or groups and chats loudly all the way through anyway and you leave feeling like Travis Bickle!

Batman Forever. I was 12 years old.

On the way home it was like that scene from The Simpsons where Homer is walking home from the fair after eating that dangerously hot pepper. I was in a daze, lol. Even as a kid I knew it wasn't good. I didn't know anything about Burton stepping down from directing duties and that Schumacher had stepped in. I assumed it was going to continue in the vein of Batman Returns,

Blood Diamond when I was 17. My girlfriend was working near where she lived and I had nothing to do and no one to see so I thought I'd do something new and that was going to the cinema on my own. Was thoroughly depressed but I really enjoyed it.

I've wanted to be able to do a sarth efrikin accent ever since (can't do it, not even phonetically it seems).
