Hello chums!

As it is now December I thought it might be seasonal to do a Best, Worst and Most Disappointing film of 2012 list/awards!

It should be limited to films we've actually seen and not just speculating on (if you can remember every new film you've seen this year!)

Best - The Dark Knight Rises
Worst -Cabin In The Woods (I tend not to watch bad films but if I had to be pushed to pick I would choose this one)
Most Disappointing - Prometheus (to be fair, I was super hyped for this as I love Alien(s) )

And please, in the spirit of Christmas, let's not turn this into a thread of people throwing shit at each other for their choices! We might even find out about good films we haven't seen yet!

Best - Moonrise Kingdom

Worst - The Dictator

Most Disappointing - The Dark Knight Rises

For the record I enjoyed TDKR but I hoped to be blown away by it and wasn't hence most disappointing.

Best - The Master

Worst - The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists

Most Disappointing - Probably Brave. It was my first Pixar disappointment (I even like Cars).

To counter Most Disappointing I propose that we also vote for our greatest surprise.

Greatest Surprise - Prometheus. I'm not a fan of Scott or the Alien films but had a great time with Prometheus. Silver Linings Playbook gets the runner up prize.

I like your thinking!

Greatest Surprise - Dredd 3D...it was just the most fun I've had at the cinema in a while!

BEST: BATTLESHIP
WORST: PROJECT X (No redeeming qualities whatsoever and that is rare in a movie. I hated this with a passion)
MOST DISAPPOINTING: Has to be PROMETHEUS, however i absolutely LOVED the movie!! One of my favourites from this year. I hope people can understand how it can be my biggest disappointment but also one of my favourites
MOST SURPRISING: Probably BATTLESHIP as i wasn't expecting much, just a fun FX ride but i actually got the best movie of the year and one of the best blockbusters i've ever seen!

Best- The Master or Shame (There both bloody good)
Worst- Hostel part 3 (I'm not a fan of the previouse two to be honest but this was just bad for both fans and fools like me)
Biggest dissapointment- Either Lawless or Killing them softly (I liked them both very much but in the case of softly I was expecting something to Rival Jesse James but instead this wans't even chopper
and Lawless just continues Hilcoat's films not being half as good as the Propostion.) I still like them just not as much as I wanted.
Biggest Surprise- Either Skyfall or A Royal Affair (I'm not a Bond fan nor do I care for period or costume dramas but these two bypassed all my prejudices)

Best - Chronicle
Worst - TDKR and Kill List!!
Most Disappointing - i wanted to put TDKR but being honest i wasnt expecting it to be any less boring that the first two!.. so it has to be Prometheus, pointless movie of the year!
Biggest surprise- John Carter and SKYFALL, as i've hated all the other Craig movies, I was surprised how much i enjoyed it! it was like Bourne crossed with Home alone! and Carter was a great little sci-fi movie!

i have yet to see The Master so this is just up to today! :)

Best: TABU
Worst: Snow White and the Huntsman
Most Disappointing: The Dark Knight Rises.
Biggest Surprise: Not finding Mirror Mirror and John Carter totally awful. I enjoyed them more then TDKR.

Best: The Dark Knight Rises

Worst: Wrath Of The Titans ( i actually cant remember anything about this film except that i saw it and Sam Worthington didnt even try to hide his aussie accent this time ).

Most disappointing: Prometheus. Its not a terrible film but it should have been so much more.

Best surprise: Dredd. It was always going to be better than the crap Stallone version but holy shit that movie KICKED ASS!

Most amusing thing about the movies this year: Taylor Kitsch having not one, not two, but THREE major flops in one year!

Yes! I did not expect it to be as funny as it is! Best comedy I've seen this year.

Best: The Wayward Daughter - a live broadcast from the Royal Opera house. It is nice to see Opera, Ballet and theatre from around the world come to the cinema at an affordable price (a ticket to the front row at the ROH is £250+). The film came with short documentaries which explained the work and made it more accessible to folk like me who have not seen much ballet.

Worst:Batman - The Dark Knight Returns - overconvoluted, overlong and dull.

Most disappointing: On the Road - tried very hard, but stuck too literally to the book. Kirsten Stewaart was good, but the flaw was that you needed to know the book to get it - and I think that was the problem.

Surprise: Both Dredd (3-D) & John Carter Dredd for reminidng me how hardcore 18 films can be and very good 3-D effects like ( it mad eme think I've seen far too many 12A films over the last few years). John Carter for taking its time and building a story and being an enjoyable evening at the cinema..

Best - The Cabin in the Woods
Worst - The Pact
Most Disappointing - Brave, but it was still worth seeing for the lovely preceding short.
Biggest Surprise - Cabin in the Woods

I've missed so much from this year though, I need to go to the pictures more often.

I missed a huge chunk of films between June-October that I'm still catching up on, but from everything I have seen:

Best: Argo (close: TDKR, The Avengers, Skyfall, The Raid, End Of Watch)
Worst: Chernobyl Diaries
Most disappointing: Dark Shadows (I kind of enjoyed it, despite how messy it is, but it was still a huge letdown)
Biggest surprise: End Of Watch

Best: The Dark Knight Rises - loved everything about it.
Worst: Snow White and the Huntsman - bloody awful film.
Most Disappointing: Looper - only the Bruce Willis part of it.
Biggest Surprise: It's between Skyfall and Avengers Assemble - I was surprised at how much I enjoyed them.

I don;t know if it's my worst of the year but i'm so glad to see someone else not enjoy this. I thought I was the only one, tbh this may be my biggest disappointment. With it being Aardman I was expecting to fall in love with the first frame as I do with all their stuff and laugh all the way through. The Most I registered was a smile at a few points.

BEST Avengers Assemble, Everythnig a blockbuster should be.
WORST Battleship, well done for actually working the board game into the movie and the alien guns were kinda neat, but the movie was a mess.
MOST DISAPPOINTING The Dark Knight Rises, There's a lot to love about it, and I did like it. But it was more of an ending to the second one than a movie in it's own right.
BIGGEST SURPRISE Avengers Assemble, It should, at best have been Ironman and friends, really surprised how well it worked.

WORST Dark Shadows. I normally like Burton but this was a bit of a mess

MOST DISAPPOINTING Prometheus or The Bourne Legacy. (Probably because I overhyped myself for them)

BIGGEST SURPRISE End of Watch

Most Disappointing: Prometheus, I did actually quite liked this but I think it could have been much better.
Biggest Surprise: Dredd, was expecting something decent but I thought it was absolutely brilliant!

Best: Skyfall -
The only movie this year that lived up to and surpassed my expectations. Pure Magic.

Worst: Cosmopolis -
Boring, pretentious, vacuous, irritating, laughable….I could go on! Close second Silent Hill: Revelation.

Disappointing: DKR-
Like others I really liked DKR but I can’t deny it let me down somewhat. Close second, Prometheus.

Surprising: 21 Jump Street / Rock of Ages –
Left both with a huge silly grin on my face. Great fun! Oh and DKR being in the disappointing list!
