As with any film I'm strapped in and committed to see I won't read any reviews until afterward. Was checking Empire for most of this week hoping this one would be swathed in di rigeur LOTR glory. But still, some of my most cherished from the noughties onward have been 4 star. Really looking forward to next Thursday when Christmas can properly start.

...for what it's worth I liked the review.

edit: Although, who reviewed it? No-one's name is showing when I click on it.

For the first time EVER I got halfway through a review and stopped reading as I had lost interest !
Never good when the running time of the review is the same as the film it relates to !

Most overrated film ever
Greatest film ever
Not as good as TLOTR trilogy
Not supposed to win Oscars
Such and such actor is poor/wrongly chosen for role

I am going to review your review of the review and tell you that, personally, I have never got half way through a review of a review and lost interest quite so quickly in a review before...

Personally I can't believe they didn't show how Bilbo got from the lazarus pit and back to Gotham so quickly!!

All the reviews I've read (including this one) seem to be along the lines of "It's really good, but... "

Regardless, so long as I can find a bog standard 24fps 2D screening, I'll go and see it.

Yeah, I'm holding out for a cinema with ashtrays in the arms of the seats.

I'm not really fussed about the ratings, my wife will insist I take her to see it, and as the LOTR films all got 5 stars and it was just a lot of midgets walking around, I shall probably just enjoy her being quiet for 3 hours and get some shut-eye.

Ten years ago this thread will already have been at ten pages.

Typical twitter generation post. No stomach for reading. It's a review, not a sound bite.

This was one of the better reviews I've read of The Hobbit, focusing more on character and acting, rather than blithering on about it being too long (I don't care if its long, as long as it's good) or bemoaning the high realism of 48fps technology- which will be a matter of taste. There has been such a lot of whining from some about this being made into a three part story- but it's time people actually paid attention; the three part structure is not a money grab (you think Jackson needs it? All he does is work anyway, when is he to enjoy this money?) it is an attempt to bring in LOTR lore that was happening on the sidelines at the time of the Hobbit. Think of the Hobbit as more of a general prequel, and you'd be on the right track.
