I haven't done this for a while, so I'm resurrecting The Soundtrack To Whatever Year We're Currently In Thread.

I think last time I did it was about 4/5 years ago - See here

Rules are the same;

Very simple - list 10 tracks (can be both song AND score) that you think have stood out this year on a film's soundtrack. You may even include TV themes if they're exceptionally good.

So, for example, in no particular order:

1. The Amazing Spider-man: Promises (James Horner)
2. Argo: The Mission (Alexandre Desplat)
3. The Avengers: The Avengers (Alan Silvestri)
4. Dredd: She's A Pass (Paul Leonard-Morgan)
5. The Dark Knight Rises: Rise (Hans Zimmer)
6. We Bought A Zoo: Why Not? (Jonsi)
7. Taken 2: Tick of the Clock (Chromatics)
8. The Hobbit: Song of the Lonely Mountain (Neill Finn)
9. John Carter: John Carter of Mars (Michael Giacchino)
10. Prometheus: Life (Marc Streitenfeld)

I'll be back when I've had a think

( I notice I said similar 5 years ago and never actually did make a selection. I will this time!)

While the film was rather forgettable and saved single-handedly by the cast, the score for The Amazing Spider-man was for me one of the best of the year and among Horner's best. Personally I think the main theme is much better than Elfman's.

As I can't add any more titles to my Top Ten, I'd like to do, after seeing it at the weekend - Highly Recommended: The Man With The Iron Fists - Opening Titles ("Shame on a Nigga")

I'd agree with this I think. A really good score.

After much pondering I have a list completed.

1. Touch The Sky - Brave (Julie Fowlis)
2. A Planet - Prometheus (Marc Streitenfeld)
3. Grand Bazaar, Istanbul - Skyfall (Thomas Newman)
4. Snow White - Snow White and the Huntsman (James Newton Howard)
5. Plowing - War Horse (John Williams)
6. Avengers - A Little Help (Alan Silvestri)
7. The Fire Rises - The Dark Knight Rises (Hans Zimmer)
8. The Prize Is Barsoom - John Carter (Michael Giacchino)
9. Widow's Hill (Finale) - Dark Shadows (Danny Elfman)
10. Misty Mountains - The Hobbit (Cast)

When I finally listen to the Hobbit soundtrack in full, I know the above will change.
