Yes. Those fields had far more respect in those days.
To be fair, and without going on about it too much, but the old orange place was an absolute riot. There were still a lot of workshy students, but they hadn't got their heads up their arses as much as the latest crop have.

It was better because it was pretty much pre social media and as a result it was much busier. I logged on the other day and nobody had posted in Movie Musings, for example, for 8 hours or so. That would have been unthinkable in the orange days. Back then it was a common ocurrence for a pretty busy thread to slip to page 2 during the course of a day. These days it can take days or weeks of inactivity for the same thing to happen.

Of course this meant there was more shit to sift through as well (and half the threads were about Donnie Darko anyway

)...

I think that's just indictive of the fact that the internet forum is now a slightly dated quirk. This place absolutely still has its moments, but it does come more in fits and starts these days, which is fine. In general people are always gonna remember the good times from the past anyway, nostalgia is reaaaaallly powerful.

This forum is nearly a decade old as well so a lot of posters from back in the day have moved on. Shit, I joined in 07, never went on from 08-10 and came back last year. Who knows who might come back in the future.

Oh yeah I totally agree apart from the last part.When it came to procrastinating this place used to be so much better than it is now and that's not nostalgia talking. There were more posters, fewer topics had been discussed to death and the post turnover was much higher.

Twitter does have that endless fluidity that Harry was talking about though, it makes sense to move on to that from somewhere like this, which like I say, is a bit of an antiquity in internet terms

My problem with Twitter is that I don't mind my inane life and opinions being concealed by a veil of anonymity, but I'd feel very exposed if people were to directly associate my actual self with that inanity. there's loads of people who I think use twitter really well, but I don't think I would be one of them.

It depends who you follow basically. Alot of the people I banter with about films on Twitter are people who I know from here, who don't post here so often (and some that do) but there are infinite friends of friends who like to weigh in, which is fun. And always the chance a random stranger will pop up too. So yeah it can be great.

Its funny btw that everyone joins to stalk famous people, but they are largely the least interesting thing about twitter once you get into it.

I'm glad you like Clueless, I can continue to like you as a person.

Most people I converse with "IRL" don't use Twitter though, so its basically just the internet I am communicating with, still. And for example - elab has signed up to Twitter and given away no annonimity whatsoever (I could happily walk past her in the street and not know, despite following her, and reguarly conversing with her on Twitter).

I'm not saying everyone has to join up, btw, I'm not Paul. I'm just saying I like it really.
