Do they have that category every year?

They do.

Interesting to see Zero Dark Thirty win again. Even more interesting to see it's not going to be a complete sweep for DDL.

Thankfully.

Nothing against DDL, it may well be a fine performace by him, but it just seemed really obvious and boring for him to sweep the awards this year.

And yeah, wasn't anticipating Zero Dark Thirty to be this strong.

I'm not a fan of anyone sweeping, tbh. Takes a lot of the fun out of it.

There's very few real upsets in it. At most it usually seems to be between two people. That's why it's always nice to see something like the Brody win for The Pianist, because that was supposed to be between DDL and Nicholson.

The lack of Moonrise Kingdom in these awards is very sad.

I'm hoping it gets into writing and best picture at the Oscars at least. Although Kara Hayward should be storming into the best actress race.

I'd love for her to get recognised - she was fantastic. I hope it does do well at the Oscars, they quite like Anderson, and it was one of the best films I've seen all year (and is also the best Anderson has ever done).

Looks like the sweep is starting. The guilds could go for something like Lincoln or Les Mis' though. If the guilds and the critics split, I'd bet on the guilds to back the winner. Second screenplay mention for Looper though, could be in the running.

Yeah, I would peg Bigelow and her film in the same category as Hooper and Les Mis - too soon after their last Oscar win to do so again.

Did they only see 4 decent female performances? That's quite shocking.

ALthough any critic that nominates the dreadful Big Miracle for anything may as well go sit with the Golden Globes lot.

My favourite current quote on GG votes basic professional incompetence - Q&A with Billy Connolly when one woman stood up and said 'you're very funny, have you ever considered standup'.
(response - have you ever considered journalism)

So the yanks still think Downton is watchable bafflingly. I'd read elsewhere that the committee didn't get the screener for Zero Dark Thirty (or Django) in time - I guess the former must be wrong?

I'd read it was Django and The Hobbit they didn't get screeners for.

Some interesting noms in there though, Bardem is a surprise.

Bardem again. I'm beginning to wonder if he's actually in with a shot. Wouldn't that be the first Oscar nominated performance from a Bond film?

It would indeed. One in the eye for Craig-haters, along with Craig getting a BAFTA nod for CR.

I think you're right on that. I can't remember another. Dench was considered a possible for Skyfall as well I think?

Looking at the SAG noms, it looks like Phoenix and Hopkins talked themselves out of the running.

Not much love in support for Adams and Weaver either it seems.
