50. One Foot in the Grave (TV series)

"I don't belieeeeeve it!" - A classic British sitcom that followed the darkly funny exploits of an elderly couple, expertly performed by Richard Wilson and Annette Crosbie. The show was one of those warm, likeable shows that was always worth catching and the humour was often very dark.

49. The Krays

Spandau Ballet brothers Gary and Martin Kemp did a fairly impressive job in this uneven but adequate enough British gangster flick which made an attempt to humanize the rather notorious Krays gangsters. The film has its moments.

48. Tiny Toon Adventures (TV series)

Steven Spielberg produced this spin-off from the classic Warner Bros. cartoons. Following a younger cast and version of the old favourite toons and featuring some cameos from the likes of Bugs, Daffy, etc. It was a fun enough kids show, if not in the same league of the comedy genius of the classic WB shorts.

Good choice with OFITG one of the best sitcoms of the 90s. Not sure about the other stuff.

I hope to see the likes of Wild at Heart, Seinfeld, Twin Peaks, Cheers appear here.

47. Truly, Madly, Deeply

In the same year that the Hollywood glossy and extremely cheesy Ghost was released, the UK produced this very likeable romantic comedy about a woman who is visited by the ghost of her recently deceased boyfriend. Rickman is reliable as the not entirely loveable spectral cellist and Stevenson is wonderful as the woman who begins to regret some of her choices. Its a much more adult look into interesting themes that a ghostly romance can provide.

46. Reversal of Fortune

Jeremy Irons deservedly picked up the Oscar for his icy cold performance as the social climber accused of attempted to murder his wife. Glenn Close narrates as the comatose victim whilst flashbacks begin to place pieces of the puzzle. Its a dark, sly film that is an intriguing adaptation of the book written by the lawyer who defended the case.

45. Postcards From the Edge

Meryl Streep gives a delightfully funny performance in Mike Nichols adaptation of Carrie Fisher's semi-autobiography. The film works best when its focused on Hollywood satire and showing the downside of being a megastar with addiction problems. Though Shirley MacLaine gets plenty of opportunities to chew the scenery as the mother with similar problems. A bit ropey overall but a fun enough movie.

44. Quick Change

One of Bill Murray's most under-rated movies is also his one sole directing credit (as co-director with the screenwriter). Murray goes the Peter Venkman route with his typically droll, and pissed off at everything performance. And its one of his best. The film isn't amazing, but its an enjoyable comedy that follows the aftermath of a bank robbery as the getaway through New York causes a lot of problems for three crooks. Jason Robards is also on fine form as the police chief after the crooks.

43. Mermaids

Hardly a groundbreaking movie, this is an adequate comedy drama that benefits a lot from the charms of its likeable cast. Cher is the kooky mother who goes from one bad relationship to another and Bob Hoskins and her share some nice chemistry together. Early roles for Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci as the two daughters. Nice enough time filler of a movie.

Actually forgot about the Krays which I was not a big fan of.

I was charmed by TMD on paper its a bit of dodgy premise, but thanks to the performances and some nice visuals they make it work.

Need to see the other two.

42. Pump Up the Volume

An intelligent teen drama with a great central performance from Christian Slater as the shy young man who hosts his own pirate radio station. He has tirades that mix well with the teen angst that is perpetuating the town. Slater is magnetic and the film has some interesting things to say and manages to avoid cliche for most of its run. Interesting companion piece to Heathers.

41. Dick Tracy

Its a bit of a mess in terms of style over substance but Warren Beatty's adaptation is still a visually spectacular movie. The costumes, set design and make-up are exceptionally good and are key to the films success (this is still the comic book adaptation to have won the most Oscars). The film itself is OK, it certainly walks in the shadows of Burton's Batman and is no where near as good. A large cast do relatively well including an admittedly too old Beatty in the lead, and fine work from the likes of Madonna (she's actually not bad!) and Dustin Hoffman having fun in a small role. Pacino was the Oscar nominee from the cast but he's a bit OTT, even Nicholson's Joker would be embarassed.

40. Gremlins 2: The New Batch

Director Joe Dante edged more towards a cartoony style for the sequel of his classic horror comedy and it's a welcome change of pace. This time the gremlins take over a Donald Trump-like mega millionaire's busy New York building. John Glover is fantastic as the innocent eyed businessman with more money than sense. The new Gremlins that arrive thanks to a genetics lab are inspired and Christopher Lee gives a nice hammy performance as a creepy doctor. There is something lost by not having the film as dark as its predecessor but it is a fun movie overall.

Pump of Volume - really liked it, is one of those films which shows just what a wasted talent Slater has been.

Dick Tracy - A bit of a guilty pleasure maybe, not everything about it works, but I found it to be a fun cinematic experience which actually stays quite true in spirit to the comic book world and that of old film noirs.

Gremin's 2 - It just felt like a collection of ideas rather than the skillfully crafted, engaging story of the film one. There is plenty of fun, but it just feels less memberable overall.

I like Gremlins 2 a lot. It's not as good as the first but it is a lot of fun. I hate Dick Tracy.

39. Misery

One of the best Stephen King adaptations comes in this psycho-thriller as a famous author is held hostage by a psychotic nurse. Its a tense movie with Gothic overtones, James Caan gets a welcome leading role and Kathy Bates chews the scenery in a brilliant turn that won her the Oscar. Always treads slightly towards the silly side but its a pretty good film.

38. The Hunt for Red October

A tense Jack Ryan tale of battles under the sea. Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin provide excellent lead performances from a starry cast. Its a high glossy Hollywood thriller and perhaps there has been better submarine movies, this still remains an exciting, enjoyable thriller and perhaps the best Jack Ryan movie yet.

37. Total Recall

A technically dazzling sci-fi movie which is very entertaining if provides very little social commentary. Schwarzenegger struggles slightly but the cast around him are good. Flawed but fun flick.

36. Die Hard 2

Big Hollywood action thriller sequel, pushes credibility at times but remains hugely entertaining throughout. Willis is spot on once again in his definitive iconic role.

35. Back to the Future Part III

The trilogy comes to a delightfully fun and sweet ending with this western-set conclusion. Fox and Lloyd are excellent once again and are ably supported by Mary Steenburgen as the love interest for the Doc. Its much lighter in tone than the previous murky sequel.

34. The Godfather Part III

Yeah so the film does pale in comparison to the first two parts of the trilogy but it still remains, an elegant, beautiful crime drama. Performances are uniformly fine, with the exception of Sofia Coppola, who whilst not terrible definitely still gets acted off the screen by everyone else. The story gets a little too convoluted and confusing at times and Robert Duvall is sorely missed. However as said before its still a very good film, if not on a masterpiece level like the first two.

33. The Simpsons - Itchy & Scratchy & Marge (#2.9)

Homer Simpson: Twenty million women in the world and I had to marry Jane Fonda! The Simpsons get their meta-on in this clever episode which has Marge trying to ban cartoon violence whilst a the statue of Michelangelo is also facing censorship in the form of a pair jeans in the local art gallery. This all follows after a brilliant parody of Psycho as Maggie attacks Homer with a mallet. One of those great satirical episodes from the early Simpsons days.
