1. Blackadder Goes Forth - Corporal Punishment (#1.2)
5. Revenge - Reckoning (#1.22)
6. Revenge - Grief (#1.21)

16. Blackadder Goes Forth - Captain Cook (#1.1)
20. Revenge - Legacy (#1.20)

27. Alias - Doppelganger (#1.5)

6/10
31. Alias - A Broken Heart (#1.4)

Blackadder Goes Forth gets off to a very good start and the second episode is my favourite of the whole show so far where Blackadder shoots Stephen Fry army captains messenger pigeon and is taken to court. Only to somehow have Hugh Laurie and Tony Robinson as his best defence. "Deny everything Baldrick!" - Hilarious! The entire cast on top form and the comedy extremely fast and witty.

Final three episodes of Revenge bring a brilliant, moody and exciting end to the story whilst providing plenty of cliffhangers for season 2. Madeleine Stowe relishes that role and she's perfect throughout. Also there's an unusually devastating death scene in Grief.

Alias continues to mince with some crazy moments (an emergency removal of a bomb from inside an alive man's chest whilst during a car chase), some cheesy 'I'm just a girl moments' but also some exciting sequences and good character work (majority of the cast are pretty good including early work from Bradley Cooper).

29. Alias - Reckoning (#1.6)

Continuing along much the same way, walking along a tightrope between silly and entertaining. John Hannah is an unusual choice as a guest star and his character's reveal certainly provided an 'oh my' moment. The depiction of a Romanian mental hospital was hardly subtle. The computer guy in the D-6 office provides some nice quirky comedy relief.

The Walking Dead / This Sorrowful Life series 03 ep15 (2013)
The Walking Dead / Welcome to the Tombs series 03 ep16 (2013)

The Walking Dead has to be the most frustrating series on television right now. So much potential for greatness mostly pissed away and yet much like last year I keep shouting at the TV, I keep huffing and sighing and I keep watching…

The Hitchhiker / Shattered Vows series 01 ep01 (1983)

Two days and one year before my birth the superb Bruce Greenwood (looking like a blonde Hugo Weaving) starred in the opening episode of The Hitchhiker an anthology mystery series shown for a few years on HBO. Hosted initially by Nicholas Campbell but for longer by Page Fletcher (an actor I once had a massive crush on despite not being very good and since 2002 he’s either sadly died, retired, been abducted by aliens or eaten by a Wolverine) who no doubt got the gig due to his resemblance to Rutger Hauer and the series creator’s ability to see into the future. This first episode is eighties-tastic with boobs, gaudy fashion and electronic/melodramatic music at every juncture and it’s also fantastically entertaining as ambitious Bruce marries an older woman, has sexytimes with her stepdaughter in a Jacuzzi and discovers that the ugly ass wedding gift (a miniature statue of a bride and groom) given to him by his grandmother (Yente from Fiddler on the Roof) appropriates the identity of the lucky couple. Cue mystical eastern-European shenanigans and a complete lack of care taken with the really fragile as fuck looking figurine, damn it Bruce not even a tissue padded shoe box!? If you’re into such escapades The Hitchhiker is goofy brilliance.

Bates Motel / "Nice Town You Picked, Norma..." series 01 ep02 (2013)

An improvement on the Pilot and I will keep watching but it’s not spectacular right now, though Freddie Highmore is interesting as Norman Bates. I like the idea of the town being all in and a tad abnormal and I would hope that this peculiarity is something we will see more of as it feeds Norman’s already troubled mind. I think my problem with the Pilot was what appeared to be a gratuitous glee (on the creator’s part) when the violence we knew was coming was unleashed as though the whole project was set up so that moment could be shown, I’m certainly no prig but it struck me as wholly unnecessary which when we’re discussing Psycho origins is quite something.

Doctor Who / The Talons of Weng-Chiang series 14 ep06 (1977)

In preparation for my re-entry into the audio world of Jago and Litefoot (just purchased myself Series 5) I thought I’d revisit their beginnings. I suppose though when all is said and done Tom Baker remains one of my least favourite incarnations of the Doctor (Five has gone right up of late through you guessed it, Big Finish audios) luckily I’d forgotten how much fun Leela can be (and I think she excels here, fully clothed and all) and then there’s the wonderful duo of Jago and Litefoot who are brilliant, another fantastic and entertaining double act from Robert Holmes. I’m particularly fond of Trevor Baxter/Litefoot who is all kinds of gentlemanly awesomeness.

I can rightly understand why Talons is highly regarded and seen as an absolute classic but I doubt it would make my Top Ten or Twenty Who serials/episodes but it is excellent.

Continuing along with Alias season 1, there's some pretty good stuff in there with the interesting locations, good stuntwork, Bradley Cooper's subplot and the forever issues faced by being a double agent. Again some silly stuff and sappy moments kind of throw it of course but its mostly all good. Then, Quentin Tarantino shows up! He's not the greatest actor but he can play tongue-in-cheek pretty well, which the show generally is. The double episode is just great fun, Tarantino chews the scenery and the whole SD-6 being held captive was an great change of pace for the show.

Smash is generally just treading water, none of the stories are too interesting or carry much weight. Its easygoing viewing but i do wish it was just a little more edgy. Nice to see Jack from Will & Grace also show up with a very funny performance as an egotistical actor.

I've fallen way behind with this. And it's become something of an impossibility to determine how new episodes should fit into my current list. But if I were to update it, there'd be plenty of Boardwalk Empire near the top.

This was becoming a problem for me and I’m sure you’ve watch a million more television episodes. I decided to break it down by series (I found it ludicrous ranking certain shows with others) now I rank series episodes and make a Top Ten/Twenty for the year from those that stand out.

Not quite a million more, about 700 episodes by the end of March

I may adopt your method, it certainly is more practical. Even then I might only rank the shows that stand a chance of having some episode in a top 100 comes the end of the year. And even doing just this is a big job!

I think I'm hovering around the 130 mark...

Doctor Who / The Rescue series 02 ep03 (1965)

Having deliberately abandoned left Susan in the last serial (The Dalek Invasion of Earth) our intrepid trio of The Doctor, Ian and Barbara materialise in a cave on the planet Dido. They encounter Koquillion a monstrous looking git who is terrorising two survivors of a crashed ship, improved Susan Mk. II Vicki and barely functioning Bennett. The Rescue is an inconsequential two part story but still a worthy watch and a lovely introduction for a new companion.

They went down with their ship? Fitting.

It’s better to hope for a fiery death than escape to a planet that quite possibly will have No Angel on a loop. Or something about a dildo...

Otherwise known as Matty's bedroom.

It's Here With Me that gets him every time.

[Sanctuary Arc] Saint Seiya (Galaxian Wars) / Moero! Pegasasu Ryūseiken (Burn! Meteor Punch of Pegasus!) series 01 ep02 (1986)
[Sanctuary Arc] Saint Seiya (Galaxian Wars) / Yomigaere! Eiyū Densetsu (Revive! Legendary Hero) series 01 ep01 (1986)

Saint Seiya Opening...I thank you. I think 20 minutes of madness every day is healthy.

기찰비록 / Secret Investigation Record / The Secret Light Part I ep01 (2010)
기찰비록 / Secret Investigation Record / The Secret Light Part II ep02 (2010)

Taken from cases detailed in the Annals of Joseon History but given uncanny twists this first two part opener is a great slice of period mystery. There is a saucer shape in the sky, balls of light, a village with no villagers and a possible administrative conspiracy. Good stuff.

Doctor Who / The Romans series 02 ep04 (1965)

The TARDIS falls off a cliff and we cut to Ian awaking from an apparent unconscious state only for it to be revealed that our quartet (Doctor, Barbara, Ian and Vicki) have left the Police Box upside down at the bottom of the cliff and have instead taken up residents in an unoccupied (the owners in Gaul) villa where they have been buggering about for several weeks shopping, eating and getting smashed on wine. The Doctor announces he’s off to Rome and Vicki too. Ian and Barbara are abducted by slave traders and separated, she ends up being pursued by Nero and Ian ends up on a ship then becomes a gladiator. Meanwhile the Doctor (impersonating a famous lyre player) and Vicki are having a delightful time hanging out with Nero and getting mixed up in an assassination plot neither is aware they are part of. The entire cast are on blisteringly comical form but Hartnell excels (as he did with comedy) the Doctor is smashing throughout The Romans a sort of mad imp having a whale of a time thrashing would be assassins, pointing swords at Nero and generally taking the piss. My favourite moment is his performance with said lyre, wonderful.

Doctor Who / The Web Planet series 02 ep05 (1965) First Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Vicki

Yes it’s silly; yes it’s incredibly amateurish at times and yes those are obviously people prancing about as giant insects. That is Doctor Who and The Web Planet is brilliant, ballsy and genuinely fantastic (in every sense of the word) if you’re willing to give in to its charm and go along (at a steady pace) with the madness happening on screen.

It was reasonably funny and I would probably watch a series.

Zombieland / Pilot series 01 ep01 (2013)
Hmm I didn’t hate it.

Did you just think not-Emma Stone, not-Jesse Eisenberg and not-Woody Harrellson are in this as well?
