The actor, best known for playing J.R. Ewing in Dallas and it's recent reboot died yesterday. He was 81.

 I first remember him in I Dream of Jeannie. (I was to young for Dallas and that appealed more to me then). A shame that he was making a comeback and then to have this happen although I had not realised he was 81.

I like the eccentric way he led his life according to that article it makes him more human and he sounded like a nice bloke.

I remember him from I Dream of Jeanie too but I can't remember which show I saw him in first.

 It's kinda easy to mock Dallas these days, but Hagman was magnificent as JR.

Every bad guy that soaps and dramas try to create like him, are still well in his shadow.

Shocked when I heard this. I've been watching the new series of Dallas (surprisingly good).
Not only was he a great villan, his comic timing as JR was spot on.

 While I was never a fan of Dallas, I always enjoyed seeing Hagman on screen (probably due to school holiday screenings of I Dream of Jeannie); my favourite performance by him is alongside Henry Fonda in Fail Safe - one of the great Cold War movies - in which as the President's Russian-speaking assistant, he has to communicate the horrific realisation of what is about to happen.

It's interesting that although the linked article mentions his cirrhosis and subsequent liver transplant, it fails to mention that he basically used his wealth to buy the next compatible liver available, depriving the person who was originally assigned the organ of their opwn life-saving operation.

Absolutely (I'm being serious here!). As a fan of the original series, I tuned in out of curiosity like many others I guess - but was pleasantly suprised. Hagman, though obviously very frail looking, still had that twinkle in his eye and was in magnificent form even at 80 years old. Although this was essentially Dallas the new generation, the old guard were still the most watchable part of the new series for me. I was just glad he decided to grace our screens for one last bow in the role he loved so much.

(Tipping my imaginary Stetson), RIP Larry, you were a legend.

Agree he did play the most iconic and best tv show baddie ever. Any male baddie that came after him on tv was often inspired by JR in some way. The show Dallas wil never be the same again. Often when famous actors and actresses leave a long running soap it`s said the show is bigger than them and will survive and most do for a while at least but I really think that show will struggle without him even though the next generation are being focused on more. He seemed the complete opposite to JR who he played so well and that`s the sign of a great actor. Shame he was typecast though from JR onwards but he semned to love reveling in the characters personna. Larry Hagman you will be missed.
