Outnumbered doesn't work any more, which is a shame. The show was funny because kids say the funniest things, improvised. But they're growing up and the script was woeful.

The Snowman and the Snowdog was better than expected. But not a patch on the original.

I loved Doctor Who.

Can I just say a great big FUCK YOU to the Daily Mail?

I watched Downton Abbey as it happened, was gonna watch my recorded MERLIN and DOCTOR WHO later (I worked all over Christmas) and when I clicked on the DA story, they just casually blew all the deaths that were gonna happen in those other two shows? I mean, if you read a story that has SPOILER - DOWNTON ABBEY all over it, then you deserve to have the story ruined for you, but why fuck it up for fans of other shows?

And, before anyone else says it, yes I realise I am an idiot for logging onto the DAILY MAIL...

 The Royle Family started off quite well then after about 10-15 minutes became one of the most excruciatingly unfunny things I've ever seen - shark-jumping on a quite spectacular scale. Rather shocking and a crying shame as the last one two years ago was brilliant.

Yeah, I loved The Royle Family, but it's run out of steam. The final twist was quite sweet but I saw it coming a mile off.

 One of the lovely things I caught this year while waiting for bastard relatives to leave so I could watch recorded Doctor Who was Arena: Sister Wendy ....it has a longer title than that which I can't remember...Welcome to Sister Wendy's Dark Places of My Life could have massive mash-up spoof potential but that is a seam I won't attempt to mine right now.

But this was lovely. I'm a very proud, inveterate, card-carrying atheist and people coming on TV (especially at prime-time) espousing God is a bit hard to stomach but Sister Wendy is the exception. I don't think cyncism can ever be countered with sentimentality, but it can, and should always be checked by intelligence, and Sister Wendy evinces the kind of intelligence that you hear on Radio 4 a lot, but all too little on TV. Whatever your opinions on religion this programme does make you pine for a certain aspect of the monastic life dedicated to books and the devouring of libraries. And judging by Sister Wendy's keen mind, not to mention dubious dental work it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out she's devoured more than a few libraries in her time. That's a joke, but that doesn't mean this wasn't lovely and, inspiring, and humbling. No Professor Alice Roberts, but a real good looker in her day as the present Pope might say.. Amen.

Did anyone watch Doors Open and was it any good? We've recorded it and were thinking of giving it a go tonight. Or one of the Xmas DVDs.

Pity. So many of these Xmas one-offs don't really seem to work. Although we quite enjoyed Mr Stink for the most part.

I thought it was pretty forgettable. It wasn't serious enough for a drama or funny or entertaining enough for a comedy heist. Just felt a bit average.

It's probably worth a watch if there's nothing better on though.

I was very underwhelmed; I thought the bits set during the War were much better than the 70s bits. Michelle Dockery really annoys me as an actress.

 Was their anything decent on this year? Usually it's repeats of Dad's Army (ugh), The Two Ronnies (even more ugh) and those terrible faux Indiana Jones flicks with Nicolas Cage.

I mostly spent this Christmas watching films I've seen before and masturbating.

I feel the same about Morecambe & Wise. I'm just fed up of seeing it every year at Christmas, especially since they get repeated throughout the year as well.

If the BBC are trying to save money then why not show something else from the hundreds of thousands of hours of past TV shows that they must have in their archives? Some old Parkinson interviews maybe?

TV in general has been pretty crap across the board and other than the big hitters (Dr Who, Miranda etc) it would seem audience figures have reflected that.

Ive not watched any xmas films. Film4 have a few darkfilms and horrors on (what i like about xmas) but ive seen most of them so didnt bother much, Only caught Evil Dead 2 last night and while it had some moments, I didnt get it at all. EV1 is a far better film.

 I recorded Stephen King's Bag of Bones on C5 last night and that's been it, I've watched nothing else unless it's been on in the room I happened to have been in at the time, what I did see that was on was some reality show called That Dog Can Dance. Within five minutes of occasional glances in the set's direction I realised as a society we have completely collapsed if this is the kind of crap that is considered enjoyable Christmas entertainment.

I flicked through the RT before the Xmas period started and nothing took my fancy, doesn't seem to be anything new on whatsoever and this is a sad sign of the times especially for the BBC who are expecting to make even heavier financial cuts to new television operations in early 2013, as for the films on Airplane! looked the best of the bunch and that was on at one in the morning on C4, so that's really saying something! Films like Atonement and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo are very good but we've all seen them half a dozen times.

The Christmas Special wasn't that terrible, but it does need to end. The adults & Jake were still on good form, but Ben now looks (& sounds) like he's 25. It's just weird when he says childish stuff now.
