The weakest of Palin's travel shows. 4 episodes was no way near enough, so much crammed each each one that a lot barely registers. But Palin's as enjoyable to watch as ever and it's always interesting.

Laurence Rees has given us some very good documentaries about WWII and the Nazis, but this really wasn't one of them.

The Office (US): Season 8 (2011-12) � This is not a great season of television. Catherine Tate is bad, Robert California (James Spader) is possibly the worst character ever on TV � completely offputting, dislikeable, unrealistic and, most damagingly, unfunny, sucking the life out of the programme � and the first half of the season is shockingly lazy and directionless, serving up a host of pointless, self-contained episodes (special mention for Gettysburg and Pool Party, which are just abysmal, though Mrs California and Christmas Wishes actually aren't bad). Everything's too bright, and too boring, and it all feels terribly sad. Then, from out of nowhere, the writers find some decent jokes and some real stories to tell that last for more than 22 minutes, sending half the central characters to Tallahassee, sending Dwight sick with ambition, creating some genuine stakes and breathing life back into this once-great ensemble. The final 11 episodes aren't exactly vintage Office, but they're vastly superior to what went before, with proper laugh-out-loud moments (Jim's botched drug deal was his best prank in a while) and a bit of heart. From thinking I might not even finish this season, I'm now looking forward � if somewhat vaguely � to seeing the final one. Creed is still the funniest thing on show, especially his attempt at personal defence. (2.5)

Stuff I caught up on: Community, The Tudors, Queer As Folk, The Killing
Happiest surprises: Inigo Montoya in Homeland, Breaking Bad getting better and better
Biggest disappointments: Louie - it had been built up so much for me and I found it so-so. Game of Thrones S2 getting a bit messy. Kelly Macdonald getting more and more irritating in Boardwalk Empire. The Thick of It ending. Not having as much time this year to dedicate to catching up on TV shows.
Best shows: The Thick of It, Sherlock and Game of Thrones
Worst shows: The Tudors and Downton Abbey
Oddest shows: Derek - why the gurning?
Some favourite moments: Chalky v Rosetti, Harrow tooling up and Al Capone's late appearance in Boardwalk Empire, Daenerys getting naked in Game of Thrones, Sherlock and Watson's chemistry, the tailor's shop getting attacked in Homeland, Walter White's descent into villainy,
And some least favourite moments: Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Charlie Hunnam's acting in The Tudors and Queer As Folk respectively, Christopher Maloney in The X Factor - evil incarnate.
I was bored by: Downton fucking Abbey.

Continuing preoccupations: TV taking over my film watching
A few performances that stuck with me: The main cast of Dad's Army. paul Giamatti and Laura Linney in John Adams.
Stuff I caught up on: Too much to mention
Biggest disappointments: Most anything British.
Best shows: Overall, Dad's Army, John Adams. New stuff - New Gitl, Homeland, Walking Dead
Worst shows: Charlies's Angels, lots of UK two episode things.
Oddest shows: Batman, but soooooooo good.
Some favourite moments: Any time Jones speaks in Dad's Army, the John Hannah hamming it up superbly in Spartacus, a few unexpected deaths in The Walking Dead.
And some least favourite moments: The last five minutes of Merlin.
I was bored by: Reality TV

Continuing preoccupations: Parks and Recreation, Community.
A few performances that stuck with me: The cast of Archer; Everyone except Zachary Knighton on Happy Ending; Cheryl Hines, Allie Grant, Jane Levy, Carly Chaikin and in later episodes the guy who plays Ryan in Suburgatory; The three leads and Morgan Saylor in Homeland.
Stuff I caught up on: Louie, Archer would be the main ones that I haven't seen already.
Happiest surprises: Elisha Cuthbert being pretty damn funny in Happy Endings, Olivia Munn and Dev Patel being the best things about The Newsroom
Biggest disappointments: Allison Pill on The Newsroom, Aaron Sorkin on The Newsroom, The Newsroom.
Oddest shows: Louie and Black Mirror. They were all the better for it too.
Worst show: A Touch of Cloth
Some favourite moments: The Duckling two parter in Louie; Brody's interrogation in Homeland; Leslie in the voting booth and Leslie's closing remarks in The Debate in Parks; Dalia's viral video in Suburgatory;
And some least favourite moments: The hit and run plot in Homeland; Aaron Sorkin's use of the Gabrielle Giffords story on The Newsroom.
Best musical numbers: You Put A Spell on Me, I'll Never Tell, Walk Through The Fire, Life's A Show.

Amazingly good fun. A few episode didn't work. The christmas episode was a good idea but short on laughs and the drama didn't work. Same with Abed;s birthday ep. Not sure which my favourite was. The paintball episodes were great, loved the fake clip show and the one with Annie's missing pen was genius. I've been told that I'm basically Britta and I can kind of see that. Her trying to sing a Britney Spears song is remarkably similar to what I'd be like in that situation, text message emoticons are lost on me and I too have a discman and not an Ipod

Still, it could be worse. At ;east I'm not Pierce!

67. Castle, season 2
Very enjoyable procedural.

171. Bag Of Bones
Pure hokum and it occurred to me when watching that I've never read a King novel. I shall have to rectify that this year.

My top 100 for the year. All told I've seen just over 3000 episodes of TV
