Basically, Paul made a thread taking the piss out of the spam threads which got removed along with the spam stuff, trouble is, they also removed a lot of his posts at the same time and the top 100 threads went with them because he started them.

I think half of the threads on the entire forum could be deleted and you'd still have the most posts

The more posts lost by me the the better for the forums though. I've only ever made about a dozen posts that were any good!

I am surprised I'm down so many though, if it's only posts from Paul's thread that were lost. The two Top 100 threads in Lists aside, I can't think of that many others I post in that could be affected.

I keep catching bits of this on the television. All I recall of this one is Carlyle getting Marceau a lovely gift of plutonium and a nuclear submarine and all he gets is Judi Dench. In my head it plays out like getting someone a Ferrari and them giving you a jumper...they knitted themselves… though Dench is superb as M.

3 seems generous but then I suppose it isn't Die Another Day which I was unfortunately suckered into watching last month.

Top Hat (Mark Sandrich, 1935) USA
I need to dig out my Fred and Ginger Collection for the festive season. It’s superb and despite the whole it’s basically The Gay Divorcee (like that’s a bad thing!) it remains a joy to watch and I really like Edward Everett Horton. (4)

No worries folks, thanks for the praise. I didnt have these lists saved just used a few cached search engines to try and find them before they all got deleted. So managed to find page 1, 2 & 4. Didn't manage to get Page 3 unfortunately.

There wasn't any lists after Page 4 (which kind of makes creating two threads rather pointless hint hint)

And yes, my mental breakdowns can be justified now by showing that I do give a shit about this thread because its one of very few that I actively contribute to. Boom!

The search for Page 3 continues though folks, I'll see what I can do.

FUCKING CONFUSING THIS WAS IN THE OTHER THREAD.

The Master (Paul Thomas Anderson)

SOME MILD SPOILERS It's a striking film, full of odd moments and beautifully captured details, like a liner chugging its way past a bridge in the dark night while it's lit up for a party (oh, to be able to see this in 70mm), but it's defiantly obtuse at times and neatly encapsulates Anderson's strengths and weaknesses as a writer/director. Weaknesses? Well, he does have a tendency to wander, and while I can't say I was ever bored by it, I'm not sure the thin story line will stand up to that on repeat viewings. But will I want to watch it again? Most definitely. As mentioned, it looks beautiful at times, the soundtrack is great and it has a hypnotic pull to it, both precise like Kubrick at times and meandering and poetic like Malick at others. It's also blessed with great, great performances that should be fighting it out for critics awards by the end of the year. Joaquin Phoenix as the damaged solider, drifting aimlessly through life, is extraordinary; contorting his body into a permanent bow-legged, broken-backed shuffle all the while maintaining the sense of a man who seems to be constantly on the point of exploding into violence at the slightest prod. Philip Seymour Hoffman, however, as the *ahem* cult leader who takes him is equally great, full of charisma and intelligence, but unlike Phoenix, almost always in control of his emotions. Almost. The moments where he just can't hold onto them anymore are utterly riveting. But it shouldn't be viewed as a companion piece to There Will Be Blood in the sense that these two are in conflict with each other; they're not, and the film is far more concerned with how the two bounce off each other and make each other react to the changes they bring to each other's lives. It's that approach that means there's no volcanic climax like TWWB, ending instead on something gentler, but no less disturbing and completely fitting to the rhythm that Anderson patiently builds up throughout. It's beguiling and fascinating, genuinely outstanding at times, and frankly, I've always wanted to watch a film where Amy Adams wanks Hoffman off into a sink while whispering "Come for me" into his ear. And now I have, so I'm a happy man. (4)

Good reviews so far though, a political film after an election year where the good guy won. And if they nominated fucking War Horse...

Yeah, that's why I was thinking Day-Lewis would be the bet for Best Actor - although Hopkins as Hitchcock might have a good chance.

I dunno, I've read a few mixed reviews of it myself, and I still think a film where Hollywood saves the day will go down well.

My local(ish) Cineworld is only showing 2pm midweek screenings of Argo and it doesn't seem to be showing The Master at all . My local theatre will have Argo on Jan 30th and The Master on Feb 2nd . I will have succumbed to a screener of each by then, I'm sure of it . Sometimes I hate living in this cultural fucking backwater.

I reckon Day Lewis alone will make Lincoln worth watching.
