Moving house.

Seriously. You take every single thing that you own, and you pack it all into boxes. Then you cart them on to a van, move x miles, and then unpack it all somewhere else. It's the knowledge that you're going to be doing the reverse of what you are doing now very, very soon that is so demoralising. It's the doing-undoing that frustrates so very, very much.

Agree? Does anyone have anything that they think is THE WORST THING EVER?

Moving house is literally the worst thing in the world.

Paul, you're not allowed to play the cancer card. I'm vetoing that now.

I don't mind moving house actually. It's an exciting time and it's quite soothing to be so methodical and put things in boxes.

I'm only speculating, but I reckon being in the room with John McCririck while he takes a shit, while eating his own boogers, while being gobbed off by Margaret Thatcher is probably the worst thing in the world.

I'm gonna agree with Homer. I utterly hate moving house. Which is why I've stayed in the same flat for about ten years, even though my neighbourhood is turning to shit around me and my landlord is refusing to replace the windows even though they rattle when a big car drives by. Plus, I have the coldest bathroom on Earth.

Mind you, I pay about 100 less per month than the going rate around here so, swings and roundabouts... and I've had a lot of happy times here.

Moving house once is pretty bad.

Moving every single year for 9 years is even worse. Wonder if I can make a record 10 years.

People who have lived in the same house their entire childhood - what is THAT all about? I can't comprehend the concept of having had the same bedroom when I was 5 as when I was 15. It's...weird.

Now I have to tidy my house so that some stranger can show a bunch of other strangers around. That's a weird thing, too.

We moved in to my childhood home when I was 2. I moved out of said childhood home in to my own place when I was 26

My parents are still at the same place.

Why move? It was handy for school. It was then handy for work. I re-decorated the bedroom a few times as my tastes changed.

We have/had a lot of family in the area so my parents have always been the sort of people who stay in one place so I guess it's just rubbed off on my and my brother.

I've moved 11 times in my life so not quite as bad as you. But in the last 5 years I've moved 6 times and it's very very annoying. I've been in my current place for over a year now and I'm planning to stay for as long as possible due to it being a nice place and to avoid the irritation of moving again.

The only thing that's good about moving is you get to clear out your shit and only keep the things you need or mean something to you.

I moved hosue 3 years ago on the 18th December. People thought we were mad. It was great, the wife had 2 weeks off work, we unpacked in 2 days, stuck the Christmas tree up (it was snowing that year as well) and to be honest, I would move again the week before Christmas (not that I intend on moving again) purely because you have a relaxing time to get sorted.
If you can be organised it should be a nice experience.

And I lived in the same house from birth to age 23. In keeping with the thread title, the worst thing I ever had to do was sell the house after I lost both parents. It was our house and I hate the idea of anyone else living there (although they are very nice poeple with little children so hopefully they'll have decades of happy memories like we did )

Well my family home is still the same one that I grew up in. My folks still live in the same house, so even though it's gone through various redecorations I still have 'my' bedroom at home. Essentially just a spare room now, but it's there if I ever need it.

Yeah, I had the same house from birth till I moved out for good at 25. I moved around rooms a couple of times, but it was still the same house.

25 years. Fuck me, a quarter of a century where one place was always 'home.'

Seems strange putting it down like that.

I've lived at home for most of my life. Although home has been two houses. One in a small town until I was ten and them the house I live in now. I moved out for 9 months the first time I went to college. And I was mostly out of home for 4 months in 2008 as well for reasons most of you know anyway. I'll most likely be here for another few years while I save up to hopefully go to Canada.

Not everyone can afford to move though or even want to move. The house I am currently sitting in has been in my family since I was born. It belonged to my gran and now my mum. My sister lived in the house for 19 years until she moved out to have her own place last year. It was very handy as the school my sis went to was just across the road. Her friends were here and it was close to the shops, bus station and train station etc.

I don't think it is weird at all, if the house is big enough and suits your needs, why move?

If anything I was the weird one in my group of mates because my family did move around when I was growing up. I was 9 when we finally settled, and after having had 3 best friends at that point I started to distance myself from people for fear of losing them again.

I envy anyone my age or older who met their best friend when they were in kindergarten.

The longest I've ever lived in one place is 10 years. I moved 8 years in a row, and one year I moved 4 times. It never gets fun.

Click this and listen while reading...

The flat I am moving into will be the 14th place I will call home. I have lived in the North East, the North West, South Wales, the Midlands, and the South West. I feel maybe I should move to the South East at some point just to shout bingo. After I moved out of my parents' house they eventually moved too, so when I go to visit my parents I'm not "going home". I'm "going to my parents' house". When people ask, "where are you from?" it takes an age for me to explain every time, because I'm not "from" anywhere. I moved too soon after I was born to identify with my place of birth, and I don't identify strongly with any of the regions I've lived in since. Home is, quite literally, where I live, wherever that may be...
