I played San Andreas for twenty minutes then turned it off and uninstalled it because they wouldn't stop swearing.

Time to invest in a TV with a mute button.

But seriously, the first half hour of San Andreas does have a lot of f bombs. A LOT of them.

4. GoldenEye 007 (1997, Rare, N64)

Yes okay, I understand many of the criticisms that are thrown upon this game. I replayed it last year on a friend's N64, and a lot of the technicality problems dawned on me instantly.

I always have and always will love GoldenEye. It's one of my all time favourite games, one of my all time favourite games based on a film, one of my all time favourite shooters and a goddamn cornerstone for one of the greatest consoles ever. And before anyone says it, no I have not played Perfect Dark, but I've been meaning too. This game, well specifically the multiplayer has stolen many hours of my life and also started many arguments with friends as well. I was driving through Melbourne last year, and noticed a big poster advertising a GoldenEye tournament. That is how iconic this game is, 15 years after it's release, there are still freaking multiplayer tournaments. I really should have gone to that tournament

The RC helicopter level is the single most frustrating mission in any of the games though.

Don't even get me started on that goddamn mission! [/repressed traumatic memories]

The one early on where you have to demolish a building?

I did that on my first go .

Goldeneye is a great game, but I think Nightfire has better multiplayer.

Because this is my thread and my countdown, I've decided I'm going to put two games in one entry because.. well frankly because I can.

5.

Portal (2007, Valve, PS3 and PC)

One of the most addictive, fun and purely enjoyable games I've played on this generation of consoles, and maybe ever.

Portal 2 (2011, Valve, PS3)

Ditto above, but add one of the best sequels of all time.

I know a lot of people who absolutely hate Portal. But they also generally like shit films, shit bands and some shit games, so I ignore those idiots. I also forgot to mention that the Portal games have one of the best game characters ever too. GLaDOS is the gaming world's equivalent to 2001's HAL 9000, and this song is absolutely brilliant.

On another note, I almost bought a little Companion Cube the other day for 40 dollars. The only reason I didn't is because I was swarmed by a crowd because I was at the midnight launch for Halo 4 and I was broke

Up Next: One of my all time favourite racing games, which features an awesome physics engine.

Portal 2 would make my top 5 games of all time easily.

As for the MGS sequels, there was nothing wrong with the gameplay, once you actually got to play it. The interminably long cut scenes just sucked the fun out of everything for me, so much so that it was a chore to get through.

I've always thought Goldeneye was hugely overrated. Having said that though neither I or any of my close friends owned an N64. We had access to PC's though. And Quake.

Portal and Portal 2 are amazing. I've never been a fan of games that force you to play a huge section of it in multiplayer but Portal 2 just works brilliantly. The single player game is ace but it's the co-op where it shines. Absolute perfection.

I don't know anyone who hates Portal! Where are these gaming goofs residing? Anyway, the first choice of your's I entirely agree with. GTA is a terrible franchise which has forgotten to have fun and takes itself far to seriously (unlike Retro City Rampage or the oiginal GTA which was aces), but Portal 1 and 2 are marvelous, simply marvelous. Fiendishly designed yet intuitive and with progression that leads to a thoroughly realised and involving plot. I'm not sure Valve know how to make a shit game...

Indeed. It seems the only people who rate Goldeneye are the console peasants who didn't have access to Doom, Quake and Unreal which pissed all over it.

Perfect Dark however was pretty good for the single player campaign.

Did you actually play Vice City? It's the one where you drive around a drugged-up Gary Busey who thinks he's in Vietnam, so I tend to disagree that it takes itself too seriously.

I agree with clowny in a way, because the series has fallen off the fun train and started to become really serious, but anyone who doesn't consider Vice City or San Andreas to be fun is crazy. In San Andreas alone, you can drive around the place on a lawnmower wearing a gimp suit, jump off, burn people with a flamethrower and hit them with dildos!

6. Rollcage (1999, Psygnosis, PS1)

The first game on my list that you will probably never see on a top games list (by a magazine or such I mean). Some people put games on lists due to technical achievement or impact on the culture. I just love this game to pieces however. It wasn't perfect, but it's one of the few games my Dad and I played together and we still occasionally pop it back in and relive all the glorious memories of driving on walls and roofs, flying through courses at like 400 miles an hour and dodging barrages of rockets. Excellent fun!

Psygnosis were one of the best devs around at the end of the 90s. I played Rollcage, Wipeout 3 and Destruction Derby 2 to death pretty much.

I was late to the Playstation party as my brand loyalty led to me buying a Sega Saturn (that worked out well ). I didn't get a PSX till about early 1998 if I recall correctly. Rollcage was one of the games I got with it and I remember it being a good laugh in 2 player. That's about all I remember of it though.

7. Fallout 3 (2008, Bethesda, PS3)

On my entry for Goldeneye, I made reference to technical issues. It would be remiss to not mention them again whilst referring to Fallout 3. This game has it's fair share of technical issues. Okay, I'm underplaying it a tad, this game is buggy as all hell. It not only crashed for me many times, I got stuck behind a bed in my Megaton house, auto saved on accident and had to go back to a previous save from a few hours ago. This is a game that I almost broke in half out of sheer goddamn anger about how it was made, and I almost did the same to Skyrim when it froze every time I touched water. But Fallout 3, despite it's many many many flaws and faults is a totally and unbelievably engrossing game. It's one of the few games released this generation I could start playing at 2 PM, and look at the clock after what felt like 5 minutes and realise it's 9 PM. I spent over 120 hours traversing through the campaign, the DLC packs and the many many side missions, and I never felt like I wasted a second. That is why Fallout 3 is on my list. This list of games may include games that were favourites of mine due to their technical brilliance, some because of memories tied in with them. Then there are some like Fallout that I just absolutely lost myself so deeply in the world of the game that I struggled to return to the real world.

Up Next: Another double entry, this time from one of the most popular gaming franchises of all time.

Fallout 3 is amazing. Especially the superior (on consoles), far less buggy 360 version  . I easily pumped 120 odd hours into that game and all it's DLC. I don't think it's as good as Oblivion and Skyrim, or indeed Fallout: New Vegas, but it'd definitely rank high in the games of this generation for me. Bethesda really are in a league of their own when it comes to creating MASSIVE interactive worlds. It's just a shame for PS3 owners that they have to put up with inferior versions.
