Fantastic game. I don't think I played any game on the Playstation as much as Abe's Oddysee. There's probably only Circuit Breakers and Colin McCrae 2 that comes close (I would include Gran Turismo 2 but I played that on an emulator on the Dreamcast). Such an inventive game and trying to save all the Mudokons was fucking nails hard. I'm sure I still have both the Abe games somewhere, I'll have to dig them out.

I've always meant to play Colin McCrae 2. I loved the first one immensely even if it was hard as fuck.

Do you prefer Abe's Exxodus or Oddysee? I can't remember a thing about Exxodus but I played Oddysee during high school at one stage so my memory is much better of that.

Prefer Oddysee to Exxodus although it's still a great game in it's own right. I never played Munch's but Stranger's Wrath was pretty awesome.

Just checked and yes I do dtill have both the Abe games, they didn't even need digging out they were just there on the shelf . I'm not sure I'll bother with Oddysee though seeing as the HD remake is due out soon.

I may need to give Stranger's Wrath a go

They really should give Exxodus the HD treatment as well, double pack and all.

God no, Custer's looks horrendous on so many levels.

Yeah, I still can't believe anyone, anywhere, ever thought Custer was a good idea. I can't even imagine how you'd pitch a game like that. "Hey guys, we really should try and corner the rape simulating market. We can sell it as Swedish Erotica". The mind boggles.

I'm guessing Manhunt. Apart from the Russian airport level in MW2 it's the last time I remember proper controversy surrounding a game that wasn't GTA.

Metal Gear Solid - great game. It's a shame I never had a PlayStation so I could only ever play it when I went to a friend's house. I've heard about a HD re-release of four Metal Gear Solid games is coming though.

Super Mario Bros. 3 - never been a huge fan of Mario, but this is one of the better games in the franchise.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - this is where the Grand Theft Auto franchise really became something special. One of my favourite games of all time. Loved every second of it, and it's the first time in a GTA game I ever felt like I should progress the story because I wanted to find out what happened.

GoldenEye 007 - another game that I could only play when visiting friends (I never had an N64, either). But it was great fun.

Portal/Portal 2 - never actually played either of these games.

Rollcage - I remember wanting to play this when I saw adverts for it. For the life of me, I can't remember if I ever did...

Fallout 3 - I've never actually encountered any major glitches in any of Bethesda's games (and I play them all on Xbox 360). If it wasn't for Youtube video's, I'd have thought they were exagerrated. I guess they're pretty unavoidable to completely remove in games the size of their's, though. And they've yet to release a game this generation that I haven't gotten completely lost in. Fallout 3 is amazing... I just wish that they didn't have separate health bars for each of your limbs and your head.

SimFarm/SimCity 2000 - Never played. But I've played SimCity 3000, and that's not bad... I guess. Considering its genre is pretty dull.

Kirby's Dream Course - Never heard of it.

The Punisher - Never played, but it looks fun.

Spyro - Awful.

Duke Nukem 3D - It's alright, but pretty overrated as far as I'm concerned.

Assassin's Creed II - Love it. One of my favourite games ever. Probably the best Assassin's Creed game so far.

Driver - never particularly enjoyed it when I played it at my friends house. Watching video's of you playing after the mission ends is probably more exciting than actually playing the missions.

Super Smash Bros. - Nope. Never liked it.

Street Fighter II - This was fun in the arcades, though.

Crash Bandicoot: Warped - Never played a Crash Bandicoot game. Ever.

Pokemon Red - Can't stand Pokemon, or any of its spin-offs.

Halo: Combat Evolved - There are three games that convinced me that first-person shooters could be decent games that were more than just walking around killing monsters for no particular reason for hours. The first two were GoldenEye and Half-Life, and Halo: Combat Evolved was the third. It was so good in fact, that as soon as I had enough money after playing this in a shop one day, I got myself an Xbox.

Red Dead Redemption - I love you, Rockstar! This is all.

The Legend Of Zelda: The Ocarina Of Time - When it was released on the N64, my friend would be playing this for a while every time I went to his house. And I couldn't think it was possible for a game to bore me as much as this one did. Thankfully, my wife got a 3DS with the re-release and I've been playing that, and it really is quite enjoyable. Nowhere near as good as most people make out, but still enjoyable.

Ape Escape - Okay, you've lost me. I've never heard of this game...

Super Mario World/Super Mario World 2 - Please, no!

Uncharted 2 - Don't have a PS3. Don't know anyone who has a PS3. So never had a chance to play an Uncharted game. But I really want to.

Metal Gear Solid 3 - Ditto this.

Bully - Really fun take on Rockstar's GTA formula.

Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey - Another one I've never played.

Pretty much, but then again RapeLay exists too...

Manhunt is banned in Australia so it's definitely not that

Appreciate the feedback Axl, from the positive (Vice City) to the negative (Spyro ), let's hope your games list goes well, I'll be reading with interest!

Ah yes of course, I forgot Australia was pretty draconian when it came to game censorship.

That's me stumped then. I'll take a final bash at Mortal Kombat, that was pretty controversial when it came out, or one of the GTA's (I can't remember which ones have already been mentioned).

Tell you what, how's about you put me out of my misery and update the thread already?

Thanks. Though, I'll carry on regardless like I did with my album countdown. I'm used to talking to myself.

28. Doom (1993, 3D Software, PC)

Everybody knows Doom. Nearly everybody has played Doom. There's been sequels, there's been a movie, there's been controversies and there's been a literal shit-tonne written about it that I don't even need to really say anything. The legacy it has left behind speaks for itself. This was one of the first games I played on a PC and I'll be goddamned if it isn't one I revisit time after time.

Up Next: Another massively popular and successful game from the nineties that started a mega-series.

I never loved Doom. I always thought it was ok but even if it was a groundbreaking game it always pissed me off that you couldn't look up or down. Great level design though.

I think Unreal was the first single player FPS I really enjoyed. Quake II was great in multiplayer as well although I never played it with more than 3 players on LAN.

That is the one thing about it that I actually dislike

Unreal is a great game but I haven't played it in yeaaaaaaars. Same goes for Quake 2, though I played Quake 1 just the other day.

29. Tomb Raider (1996, Core, PS1)

Tomb Raider 3 gave me anxiety attacks as a kid. True story. That game was so goddamn hard when I was younger, it brought me to the verge of tears. That could also be due to the fact that I loved the first game so much (I never played the second) that the fact I literally couldn't play the third game was so traumatic. The first Lara Croft game is such an immense game when you think of gaming history. Before it, women in gaming were princesses being saved from castles, Native Americans being sexually assaualted by General Custer or they ran around gobbling up dots and cherries. Only Samus Aran could possibly match Lara Croft in ass-kicking ability but they concealed the fact she was a woman for a while anyway (note: there might have been earlier examples of female heroes I might have forgotten, you'll have to excuse that fact and don't yell at me pls). Right from the word go, you knew Croft was a woman, whether it be fighting T-Rexs, running around jungles, finding treasures or solving puzzles, playing as the opposite sex and kicking so much booty might have emascualted some who were, you know, douchebags who value women as lesser beings. Anyway, sexual politics aside, Tomb Raider for me as a kid was a superb adventure rivalling any film. While it's power is diluted these days due to obvious techical advancements, playing Tomb Raider 1 recently was still a great experience and a reminder of why I loved the game so much.

Up Next: Oh look, another PS1 game. This time with air tasers!

Yeah Tomb Raider was a brilliant game at the time and it was pretty damn hard. There was one section where you had to make your way up to the top of a room where your jumps had to be so precise it was mental. Another one of those games whose difficulty owes a lot to the restrictions of the hardware they were made for (see also Resident Evil).
