There's another thread that surfaced about "The Keep" which had Gabriel Byrne and Jurgen Prochnow as Nazis who unearth a demon in WWII Poland. It's a real cult classic, but from what I've read, the film doesn't do the book justice and from what I remember, I think the 80s arty stylings (replete with Tangerine Dream soundtrack) might be a bit dated now. I think a remake could improve on the original given the technology jump from now to then. Of course, tech doesn't make up for good performances, but I really reckon a do-over of "The Keep" isn't a bad shout.

Pet semetary is the only one I quibble about being remade, it is well done but it could be a lot better. For Jud you would need Jeff Bridges or someone with class to hold a candle to the original Jud. The creepy sister bit when she chases the woman also still kinda scares the crap outta me.

I thought IT wasn't a proper film actually since I have it in two parts, I prefer the first part overall.
If you consider it to be a film I think it needs a lot of editing, I think there's a lot of pointless montage type bits, the part where they sit down and have a laughing and eating dinner montage sticks out.

Another one I think needs re-adapting is The TommyKnockers, I think this was a tv series or something and I really quite like it but it could be made much better as it has a decent premise.

To be fair that sequence lasts less than a minute and they have just met for the first time in 30 years. The novel is massive and complex, and a great deal was cut out just to get it down to three hours. I really don't see how one could do it justice by trying to cram it into feature film length. Like I said TV offers the time for a lengthy adaptation but there always seems to be a compromise on the horror, and vice versa for film. But you've got two time-lines, and a huge principal and secondary cast, not to mention all the relevant back-story. You'd need a couple more hours to get it all in. People would argue that you wouldn't have to be that faithful to the book, which is fair enough, but then why bother in the first place?

The last third is an absolutely corking relentless pursuit that just doesn't even feature in the mini-series and fails to make Gard the absolute hero he is. Insane, yes, but balls to the wall awesome all the same.

Absolutely. And as much as I loved Jimmy Smits in NYPD Blue I felt he was all wrong for the part of Gard. These days...maybe Mark Ruffalo?

I know what you mean about IT and to be fair I've not read the book, but speaking as someone who is just watching it I think it could have been edited down some. I think this is probably gonna be one of the first to get re-adapted though just because it's a easy premise to sell 'evil clown that lives in sewers eating kids' it would be easy to make a disturbing and cool looking trailer for.

The only thing I'm worried about is we will probably end up with something like the remake of nightmare on elm street.

Who would be your first choice for Pennywise?

I can't think of anyone more perfect than John C. Reilly, the guy can seriously act, he's good at comedy and I think he has a great face for a clown. I think he could play him really menacingly.

I don't know, I just wouldn't do a remake and then cast the same person for Pennywise, seems a bit lame and lazy to me,

Now, to the remake of IT... wasn't there talk of doing two movies, one with the kids, one with the adults? That is a brilliant idea! The only way to do justice to a 900-page novel. But it will be weak if they go through the whole 12-certificate thing, it's a full-on novel and needs a full-on movie treatment.

Unless they try and go for the whole....

So does anyone have any idea's about a new pennywise?

As long as IT was remade as an 18 certificate a good or bad pennywise would make or break the film really.
