For the record I am actually joking. I'm not completely mental.

Cranston wouldn't settle for anything less than Vito and we know it.

Ignoring the others, as you're quite obviously talking shit (quelle surprise ), are you referring to the 1980s Connery High-Noon-In-Space one?

'Cos I'd actually agree on this one.

Yep, an underrated classic. Belongs up there with 2001 and Bladerunner.

Wouldn't go that far. Still decent, some great design but some of the effects are really outdated and detracted from the experience for me.

I reckon there are a few kids movies that could be remade. Now that we have movie that appeal to both adults and kids of a quality that is worthy of awards I think studios should revisit some of their old stories that at the time were purely made to keep the kids quiet for an hour or so.

One of my favourites as a child was Dinosaur Tale and having it rewatched recently I've found it doesn't really stand up which is a pity as the story is great, and I think it be a fantastic movie if done with the care that someone like Pixar put into their movies.

A proper remake of Jack the Giant Killer please, not just a remake of the title - although I just noticed they've tried to fix that!

Highlander.

I know a lot of people love that movie but I caught it last time it was on TV and... wow. It's such a fucking brilliant concept but in the cold light of 2012, its many faults are glaringly apparant. I'm not gonna talk about the accents or the terrible SFX, it's just... it's an 80's MTV movie that should be a total epic.

I expect some brickbats for this one.

they are already remaking highlander with ryan reynolds, its a fact

Emmerich made 100,000 BC, but I don't think it was a remake as such.

It wasn't very good as such, either.

But I want cavemen fighting dinosaurs, dinosaurs fighting dinosaurs, and bear skin lingerie.

alas i rest my case, it would star ryan reynolds and emily blunt and ive already pitched it. and watched emily blunt in a cloth repeatedly in my mind

You may

Have you read the book? I honestly don't think the film does it justice. The book is just so exciting and fun and scary and doesn't have Cary Elwes in it.

I thinkmthe film is only as good as it is because the source material is amazing.

Well, the film was written by the same dude who wrote the book, I think he felt that was the best movie version that could come from his book. He loves the characters he created so much so I don't think another version written by someone else will have the same heart to it

Cary Elwes is one of the best things about Princess Bride. I can't imagine a remake having the same charm or cult appeal.

I kind of wish I'd not put "Fact" at the end of my original message as reading it back it makes me sound like more of a dick than I was trying to be.

And while I agree with your point about Goldman writing the screenplay (it's an amazing screenplay too by the way) I'd just love to see it done with a bigger budget and a better leading man. It might just be that I had a different idea about some of the characters too as I actually read the book before I saw the film properly for the first time.

EG as much as I love Mandy Patinkin now I thought his Inigo was a little bit odd and subdued compared to the character in the book and I still hate Cary Elwes.

Don't get me wrong, they can remake anything they want and as it is a book, it is open to other adaptations. I think the film is near perfect, though, it is beautiful and heartfelt and I think Elwes is great in it. Goldman did too, he had a hand in picking him, so if it is good enough for the man who created the character, it's good enough for me

Plus, you could never replace Andre The Giant. In life or in the film.

Do it right this time.

See, now this is one that a remake would never live up to. It could be the most expensive film in history with the greatest actors of all time in it, written by the finest screenwriters in the world... And it still wouldn't be a great as the 1980 classic.
