A Disney "Star Wars" film, is this a good thing?

Who - WHO - wants to see more Star Wars films? Well, obviously accountants and 5 years olds who want to be a jedi...it is unbelievably depressing that they dictate which films get made.

Would love this to work but it will prob be a star wars film in name only with secondary characters from originals and no primary characters which means virtually no connection to episodes i-vi. Still interested to see how it goes.

we can expect at least seventeen covers, 5 exclusive retrospectives, 13 filler "never before seen photos of the original trilogy" features and one whole magazine dedicated to Episode VII then.

Does this mean a Blu Ray release of the original trilogy may come to light now that Lucas can no longer put a stop to it?

I have zero interest in any new films but hey. I'm 35 and was brought up on the OT. These films aren't going to be made for me and I hope the kids it's made for enjoy them

Best news in ages! Fingers crossed we start hearing "reboot" soon and Disney give us the prequels we deserved. Let's also give Christian Bale a lightsaber and Anakin Skywalker his ass! He'd be awesome. Come on Mouse House! It's time for the real episodes 1-3 (tho you can call 'em Episodes 7-9 if you've got legal obligations etc.). I feel like I'm 8 years old again...tho I'm actually nearly 40. Shit.

Disney own the Muppets, Pixar, Marvel and now Lucasfilm. Next: Planet Earth.

Not sure this is a good thing - if only because Disney seems to be slowing absorbing everything. Still it's a nice payday for Uncle George so I doubt he'll care too much what they do with his properties.

I bet the Mouse House won't be nearly so generous towards fan films. spoofs etc as Lucas has been though

I must admit, this news completely blindsided me. My initial thougts were of the 'on rolls the cash cow' variety but, thinking on it, this could actually be a good thing.

The best thing aboout it that there will be no George Lucas on directorial duties and, whilst I imagine he will have some say with the overall story development, scripting duties will probably go elsewhere. This is potentially very good news and if it's all done properly, we could get some great Star Wars movies. Given the size of the Star Wars universe and all of the other stories that have popped up via novels etc, there could be some great spin-off movies made as well.

I'm not holding my breath or anything, but I am very cautiously optimistic that this could be good, provided it's handled woth care. I do, however, share the concern of some about Disney swallowing everything up though.

Lucas looks like a concerned pensioner signing over his home to the care home who will look after him as he sees out his final years!

The news websites has missed out some of the detail of the deal.

Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company, said:

quote:

Disney has the exclusive rights to rename all future Star Wars films as Mickey Mouse Wars.

That seems a reasonable compromise.

I'm confused. Does this mean we will see more whoring out of the Star Wars name or less now?

Can't be any worse than those other 3 rubbish films. You'd have to be a muppet to make them. I reckon Lucas watched them back and realised this, and (like a dog staring at its own vomit) knew it was over...

Perhaps they'll bring back Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamil. Jedi in an old peoples home.

He sold out his creation for four billion dollars. What a greedy bearded man! Can you imagine relatives of Mr Lucas going round to his house...

"Hi, George. I've got a few cash flow problems. Could you help me out?"

And he says

"Sure, here's one dollar.Spend it wisely."

Well, this was a shock. Lucas is a billionaire already, surely he didn't need another four billion. Everyone is asking who will write and direct Episode 7, more importantly how can you have a Star Wars film without Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker? And does that mean Disney have their hooks into Indiana Jones too?

With Disney owing all of Lucasfilm do you think this means George Lucas won't get much out of the new films? I wonder if he'll still get a cut of the new toys for the new prequels, plus a percentage of the films' gross? He's a canny businessman so there might be more to the deal than just the four billion dollars sale.

If handled properly this could be really good. A new grittier, mature and darker star wars adventure would be great, they only have to look at the new batman and jim bond films to see which direction to go.
