Ah right, well Stallone doesnít feature in my life at all unless Iím watching Nighthawks and his hairy arsed face in drag. So I think that makes me less than a hipsterÖ I do however like jazz and have a relaxed view of sexytime so maybe Iím a 1940ís hipster.

Iím going to listen to the Orwell stuff during the weekend.

Is that taken from your personal ad?

You don't like Stallone, then to some you are a hipster.

There's actually a really good book about the history of hip if you're interested? It's called Hip The History, by John Leland. Imaginative title, I know.

I'm so far behind on my radio listening. I really need to play catch up.

My new improved and classier ad...

I've been doing okay in the radio/audio department but my film watching has been affected. I believe Iím down by about 25/30 on last January.

It's really a fascinating read, and a lot of it is focused on your sexytime era.

Did you happen to catch the Afternoon Play a day or two back about Bette Davis and Joan Crawford? I haven't listened yet, but Catherine Tate was playing Davis. I'm interested to see which Tate we get, the awesome Dr. Who Tate or the Tate of her own show Tate.

Cool I'll bump it up to my March/April purchases.

I didn't but I will check it out and yes I hope we get Doctor Who/Much Ado Tate and not Tate Tate.

I'm really looking forward to the play next week with Tom Courtenay playing a 110 year old man.

Yay, one I voted for! The Haunting of Hill House is awesome.

But Rawls, which is worse - 1999 Haunting or The Woman in Black?

I think they're the same kind of basic shit, created with no basic understanding of the texts they're adapting. They'd both be in my 100 worst films.

The Wind in the Willows is just wonderful. I adore that book - so glad it made the list.

Were there many single listers in the results, Rawls?

Have you read the sequels by William Horwood? All better than the original.

Nope, everything was two lists at least. I was glad because it's more representative, but annoyed because it meant most of my top ten missed out.

The Willows in Winter. It's very good, don't get me wrong, but there's few books that can match Wind in the Willows, and that's not one of them.

I've read the Willows in Winter and the Willows at Christmas - they're decent, but nothing beats the original.

George's Marvellous Medicine - wicked! I once had a baking set which came with a copy of the book and a version of it on tape. That was awesome.

Winnie the Pooh - it's just so lovely. The illustrations are some of my favourites.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - good stuff.

The Iliad is superb.

I really like Haunting of Hill House, Jackson was a brilliant author.

The Holmes stories are endlessly readable.

White Noise is currently near the top of my wish list so Iíll hopefully read it before the end of the year.

The Kreutzer Sonata is amazeballs even though I disagree with much of what Tolstoy is going on about.

The White People and all Arthur Machen works should be read by far more people.

George's Marvellous Medicine is a sublime piece of childrenís fiction.

Winnie-the-Pooh is lovely and brilliantly absorbing.

The Long Goodbye is a fantastic read.

The Tempest Ė Not my favourite from Will but still excellent.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - Meh

At Swim-Two-Birds really pleased this was nominated for the HOF, I loved it.

Franny and Zooey Ė some sort of groaning noise

But did you ever create an unholy mess in your friend's bathroom by trying to make your own medicine?

Me and my best friend when we were seven were convinced we were experts at making stuff and chemistry - to prove this, we just mixed everything we could find in her parent's bathroom in the bathtub (obviously not things like loo cleaner, but any toiletries were fair game). We managed to clean it before her mum got home, but I always wonder whether her parents questioned why they suddenly only had about an inch of shampoo left in the bottle.

The Tempest - good, very good.

Franny and Zooey - superb. Wonderful. Gorgeous. I love it.
