We're considering running another theme round next. Wanted to check out the level of interest. We were thinking of making it a classics round, all nominations would have to be from 1959 or earlier. If you're interested, can you let us know asap so we can see if there's enough people to proceed?

I think it's a nice idea.

How did you come up with 1959? Is it half way from the early 1890s?

Yeah, I'm game. It'll help to expand my horizons a little bit more.

Well, I was thinking more that the 60s is symbolic of the change from studio led to director led. So the cut-off should have been pre-60s. 59 still allows for films like North by Northwest, Some Like It Hot, etc.

Cool, cool I'm in.

When we say CLASSIC do we mean those considered or any film pre 1960?

Anything pre-60. Classic is just a catch all title. It can hardly be a genuine classic round when there's the risk of someone nominating a piece of shit like How Green Was My Valley.

If anyone does nominate that film I'm going to make sure they get lost in the shuffle.

One more thing to address, with theme rounds it's usually the deal that long-term posters get first refusal on their slots, but it doesn't count as part of their four rounds if they take it up. But as the current round is the last one for most of the long-termers, it just means Matty is the only one with the possibility of that guaranteed place. So as he's said on thread he wants to take part, we're going to be looking to fill 8 slots.

Damn Siegfried's lists of 30s and 40s films. I can't resist any more. I'd like to chuck my hat in the ring if I may. Haven't a clue what I'll nominate though EDIT: Got one

I'll step out of the draw in this one if spaces are filled - only fair as I'm doing the current one

No need to step out. Some people will miss out, but that's the nature of the draw, and anyone who does miss out will have another shot in the following round.
