Games you wish would have had a sequel - 19/10/2012 12:53:13 PM

I've been reading the Borderlands 2 thread on here and it has given me a hankering for the game. I'd 100%ed the first playthrough on the first one and loved it. I had an extended period off work at that time and so had a lot more time on my hands (completing Arkham Asylum on every difficulty level was another achievement).

Anyway, this talk of Borderlands 2 got me thinking to another game which I loved for the PS2 (another that was completed on every difficulty) and that was 13 by Ubisoft. It had similar almost 2D and cell shaded graphics. I absolutely loved that game and obviously it set itself up for a sequel at the end. I don't think the game did commerically as well as was hoped and so a sequel was never made. Gutted. David Duchovny I thought did some pretty good voice acting in that game.

Anyway, to put the question out there, have there any games you have played and just wished a sequel had been released for?

Shenmue 2.

That is all.

Bulletstorm. But it'll never happen.

So much world building potential and it was the most fun I've had with a game in ages.

I picked that up fairly cheaply recently for the PC.

I like to play offline Coop with my bro, is it any good as a Coop?

I suppose I could find out by actually doing it, but then where would the fun be...

Enslaved. Great fun, good story and characters I actually cared about...

You can't do the campaign co-op, which is stupid because it'd be perfect for it, but the multiplayer is quite fun for a while.

Bum, thought it was a coop (one of the reasons for buying it). Made a few top ten lists so I'll still get my money's worth no doubt.

Enslaved 2 would be good. The characters and story were very strong. Alex Garland and Serkis did a good job. Pretty heavyweight writing for a game.

I fancied the female lead.

So frigging true - I'd love to play a sequel to see how those characters get on in the future.

I'd also like to see a sequel to KOTOR or Jade Empire as I never got to play those games.

Err there is a sequel to KOTOR, it's called KOTOR 2 . A non MMO sequel to KOTOR 2 would be nice. Hell fucking yeah to a sequel for Jade Empire as well, that was a stunning game. I still own my original XBox copy. The backwards compatibility for it works well, unlike KOTOR where the fucking sound cuts out after 5 minutes play.

My top 3 most wanted sequels would be thus -

1. Shenmue 3
2. KOTOR 3
3. Jade Empire 2

Yes. I would love a Wake sequel. Still have to play the two DLC episodes, haven't bothered with American Nightmare.

It's a tricky question in some respects because many games I wished for a sequel and then when that sequel came out i kinda wished it hadn't. Bioshock 2 immediatley springs to mind, as does Crackdown 2. Perhaps that's being a bit harsh, Crackdown 2's biggest flaw was it felt more like an expansion pack than a sequel and Bioshock, well I think that's because I hated the story so much and how they tainted the mythos of the first one. I'm sure there are other but for the life of me I can't think of any right now...

Anyway, the sequel I would love to play more than anything is Shenmue 3. The first one was probably my favourite game ever growing up and whilst the second was a little too ambitious for its own good, the story was just as gripping and I hate that chances are we'll never get to find out how it all ended. Weren't there originally meant to be like 9 games in the series?

I'd also really have liked to have played Enslaved 2. I can't believe how badly this sold, everyone I talk to loves it. In the games shop where I worked everyone of us had it and were constantly reccommending it to anyone who would listen.

Randomly, I'd love to see a new Crazy Taxi! I loved 1 and 2 on my Dreamcast, so much so I bought 1 again for my PS2. Never played 3 on the xbox but seeing the first game on XBLA again has got me thinking how cool a new HD one would be.

Another hit from my old Dreamcast days, Skies of Arcadia. Air pirates! I think this got a Gamecube port but no real sequel sadly...

Another vote for KOTOR III - KOTOR I and II are arguably the two finest Star Wars games the franchise has ever produced. Added to that I always wanted to see a sequel to Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.

The sequel I wanted so much half a decade ago was to the FPS Black. Black II was in the pipeline, then just disappeared for some reason, which was so disappointing because it was a brilliant shooter with combustible environments that led it to be dubbed 'gun porn'.

KOTOR 3 would have to be something incredible considering the route Bioware has taken lately, but I still want it. Alan Wake 2 also gets my vote, but I'd imagine at this stage it's still being considered or developed in some way. Half-Life 3 is another obvious choice, but again who knows what exactly is being worked on, and since Portal 2 turned out so well I can't hate them for it.

Oh yeah, totally forgot about Black.

Don't think they could do it now. The market is too saturated with similar games

The DLC's actually well worth the money, it expands on the story in genuinely interesting ways. American Nightmare's a fun three hours, but adds nothing to the story and has none of the atmosphere of the original.

Good shout, I loved Black.

Oh, Killer 7 2 (Killer 8?)

I'd like to see a sequel to Eternal Darkness. Bloody loved the first game, there were some genuinely creepy moments and I loved the whole 'fright mechanic'.

The lack of any Offspring kind of makes the memory all shonky and sad.

I'd quite like a Punisher 2 (Original Xbox). Oh, and jump the gun a bit and hand over an Xcom: Terror from the Deep right away. I done gone and finished the new one too quick.

Uh... Final Fantasy VII-2?
