I think it's hard sometimes to explain excactly why my favourite films are so great. Mostly it's just a special feeling inside of me, that i can only get when watching them. Sometimes it's the camera angles, a great story, the timing or pure movie magic, and sometimes all of them, as in my favourite movie.

Okay so here's number 21:

The Shining is an amazing movie
Phantom of the Opera less so, I can appreciate how important it was and Chaney is amazing, but it never gripped me

The main reason Why I love Phantom of the Opera is that the first time i watched it was on a big screen on a beach in the summer, with live dubstep/ electronica music, instead of the original music.. it was SO magical!

Donnie Darko is a true original. I assume that version of POTO can be no worse than the more recent stinkfest.

Orlando and Umbrellas are on my list to see.

Shining is rubbish.

It was on at the Glasgow Film Festival earlier this year as well - a big production with live music at Pollock House. It seems to be a favourite among the live silents we're seeing more of

Great choices so far!

Eternal Sunshine is my favourite film.

Harold and Maude, Mulholland Drive, Some Like it Hot - all fantastic.

Midnight in Paris and Roman Holiday are both just so charming and lovely.

The Hours - Stephen Daldry, please fuck off forever, you hacky fucking Oscar slut.

The Shining - Really good flick.

Mulholland Drive - FWWM is better but Mulholland Drive is still top tier Lynch. Laura Harrington and Naomi Watts are pretty sexy together, too.

Amelie - Audrey Tatou is one of the very few actresses who can pull off the manic pixie dream girl thing and not be annoying. She's adorable and the film is really good.

What a fascinating and incredibly varied list of films. A number of them would certainly rank among my favourite films of all time, a few others I'm afraid I dislike intensely and some I have yet to see.

Phantom Of The Opera: - still by far the best version of the story. Chaney's performance is stunning.

The Shining: - one of Stephen King's best horror novels reduced to a couple of hours of sheer boredom.

Animal Crackers: - Duck Soup is my favourite Marx Bros. film, but nonetheless I love this. Fine choice.

Donnie Darko: - highly overrated.

The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg: - visually one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. Also one of the most heartbreaking. I adore it.

Amelie: - delightful. A film of immense charm. And who wouldn't fall in love with Mlle Tautou?

Spirited Away: - one of my favourite animated films.

Roman Holiday: - a lovely fairy tale.

Lord Of The Rings: - one of the finest achievements in cinema.

Fantasia: - inconsistent. At its best (The Sorcerer's Apprentice; Night On Bald Mountain) stunning. At its worst (Pastoral Symphony) sickeningly schmaltzy.

Some Like It Hot: - quite simply one of the finest achievements in American comedy.

Midnight In Paris: - Woody's done better than this, but not for a long time. A lovely film.

The Hours: - cold and uninvolving. Even though the performances are good, I found it hard going.

Harold And Maude: - a strange film, which I remember liking when I saw it many years ago. Must watch it again.

The others I haven't seen.
Can't wait to see what your number one choice is.

Fellowship Of The Ring

I'm so happy that this is here I'll forgive the Ghibli film ahead of it!

Amelie, Fantasia, Some Like It Hot and The Hours are all fantastic too. A few of the others I'm not so keen on.

Amelie and Some Like it Hot are two of the most magical and charming romances ever.

Sprited Away and Princess Mononoke are two of the greatest animations ever.

The Hours is a powerful, near perfectly constructed movie which is sadly let down by Kiddman's performance.

Roman Holiday and Fantasia both have their moments but are overrated.

Harold and Maude is wickedly entertaining.

LOTR and Mulholland Drive are masterpieces. MD being the best movie of the last decade. Good list.

Donnie Darko - Great film
Ponyo - Lovely film
Amelie - Ditto above, one of my favourites

Fellowship of the Ring - Best of the trilogy
Princess Monoke - Excellent
Midnight In Paris - Absolutely charming film, Marion

Mulholland Drive - One of my favourite films of the 00's
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Ditto above, but also one of my favourite films of all time

I fell in love with Marion Cotillard after watching Midnight in Paris, but the movie is just so great and woody's best one ever. The best tribute to a city iv'e ever seen :)

I think I fell for her when I saw Public Enemies. And what other Woody Allen films have you seen?

Anyway, I loved The Artist. It was just a really charming film, and a great love-letter to silent films as was Hugo.

Donnie Darko is one of those films, wich was cult for me when i was 17- 18 years, but the last 2 years i've had the feeling that it was overrated too.. then i re-watched it a few weeks ago, and felt the old feelings for it coming right back at me. I'm getting goosebumps to the sound of "mad world" in the end, it get's me everytime :) And yes, maybe it is a little overrated (the feeling of it unessecarily happens in 1988, and the feeling of it trying to be speciel, without really succeding) but it has been such a big part of my youth that it would be stupid of me not to put it on this list:)
