Indeed - and I'd say there's a difference between 'gossip' and 'allegations'. Unless Rantzen is saying there was a point in her time at the BBC where she should have had matters looked into, and didn't. Which I don't think she is.

It looks like the Jersey police have acknowledged that a claim was made to them about Saville as well - the Jersey home is the one that Saville allegedly had the Super Injunction over when the Sun was going to run pictures of him there (he'd previously claimed he'd never been there).

In a way I had a similiar experience and suffered abuse in my workplace. I had a new duty manager who was new, young and lacked experience. Turned out this piece of shit behave in a same manner as a psychopath and I suffered a mental breakdown from tolerating his abuse. A common outcome when being targetted by one. I didn't know what was going on or otherwise I'm pretty sure I would hurt it pretty bad. Now knowing the full truth I would like to comfront it and issue some payback.
However my experience higlight the fact while some of us where aware this shit head should of been sacked, other people got along with him despite he ran his section into the ground. Luckily he left for another company and constantly being promoted while in my experience was shit and very counter productive. I was left in a mental wreck and only now I can say I fully recovered.

You would think people would be able to spot a dangerous person in the workplace but many don't. This is the problem and same thing happened in the BBC with Jimmy Saville. While it's unlikely Jimmy saville is a psychopath but again the working environment doesn't pay enough attention to each other.

This is a bit off-topic but the workplace psychopath is a real phenomenon, I've at least once come across someone who fits the bill. One problem is they can pressurise people to squeeze every last drop of blood out of them + rule with an iron fist so senior management actually like them. I would say they are rare in my experience but looking at how corporations behave for example there simply must be psychopaths operating in the business world, I'm sure the City has it's fair share as well.

Exactly.

A psychopath doesn't have a personality(person). They mimic the behaviours going around them and lack the brain function which does empathy. They don't know the difference between right or wrong and abuse people in the same way they been abuse. They single out people to target while in the workplace are super charming towards their surperiours. They are also very lazy and take credit for other people work. I don't think so, someone explained it to me as being an honour that was only bestowed whilst alive, it's wasn't a hereditary knighthood, so it died with him. Made sense to me.

So, it was his threats about the charity money that stopped any exposes on him? The part of it I did struggle to get my head around was that Savile was so powerful people were scared to accuse him......possibly in the 70's and 80's, but surely not in the 90's and 00's? And certainly not after the convictions of Gary Glitter and Jonathon King.

The papers have certainly done hatchet jobs on crooked charity workers before - was it just the amount of money involved with Savile? Really pisses me off that certain people may have put their own careers and (now tainted) money before the safeguarding and welfare of children.

Bizarre thought I know, but I wonder how the people who work for Stoke Manderville etc feel that their charities were allegedly used as leverage to stop a paedophile being exposed?

I've heard the rumours since I first started working in the media (about 13 years ago) so wasn't massively surprised to hear them in the press.

I think one way of fucking with them would be to set up an email account in say an internet cafe to be safe, then list what they've done in great detail (making sure of course they can't work out it's you!) and then email everyone in the company about it.

Of course not everyone's going to believe it but it will certainly put people on edge and possibly force them to reign in their behaviour.

Or maybe like me, not wanting to, but feeling obliged to after this week's buildup to it. It was already mentioned in the thread, but Saville's defence of Gary Glitter made for some uneasy listening.

To be honest I am sort of 'in and out' of these allegations against Jimmy Saville,but I know of the bear brunt of the sorry affair.
Having witnessed a clip on the Telegraph website i'm indifferent if I want to check it out or not.

OK, so I didn't watch it, but have obviously read a number of stories during the week and saw a few interviews that, presumably, were taken from the documentary. Now, this is all very serious, sickening stuff, however, during one interview (which was being voice-overed to protect the identity of the victim) it was described how the victim was wearing glasses and entered Jimmy's room and he dropped his jogging bottoms and said something to the effect ofm"How's about that then?"". This was obviously a traumatic event for the victim and was a condeming account of Jimmy's actions, but I could not help laughing at the thought of Jimmy Saville, pants round ankles, cigar in hand, jingle jangle jewelry all over the shop shouting... "How's about that then?!". Me and the missus both burst into laughter when it was played on the news. it sounded like a fucking comedy sketch parody of the man..."Oh, Oh, Now then, Now then, How's about that?!". Seriously, that nearly broke me last night.

Also, for those thast did watch, just how damning was it? Would you say the jury is still out, or is it pretty cut and dried? Seems like more and more branches of the force are getting complaints....

What's more worrying is that more branches of the police are admitting they received complaints before he died and they were chucked out for 'insufficient evidence' or other reasons - but none of them apparently knew others were also getting complaints.
