ORIGINAL: vad3r She thought she found true love, when it was just an act to use her. Happens to everyone. I can't believe I'm even going to bother with this, but here goes anyway..... How exactly was Brand using Perry? How long were they married, 18 months? 2 years? If that? During that marriage, what exactly was Brand using her for? What evidence is there that Brand was somehow tricking Perry into falling in love with him for his own end? I've not read a great deal about the ins and outs of the relationship or how it ended, but from what little I have read, Brand always came out of it well. He's a particularly spiritual fella and doesnt strike me as the type to 'use' a woman. Indeed, having read both his books he was often very forgiving of women who sold kiss and tell stories about him, it never comes across as Brand was ever using women to further himself. So, Vad3r, as you clearly know a lot about the relationship, can you eloborate? Do you just dislike Brand and therefore make accusations based on fuck all, or is there factual evidence that this is what happened? As far as I was aware, there hadn't been any real explanation for the break up of the marriage and in subsequent interviews, when asked, Brand has been very positive about his time with her. Brand doesn't strike you as the type to 'use' a woman? The man has admitted to sleeping with around a thousand women back in 2006 (when he was largely unknown). God knows what the number is in 2012 now that he's recognised on an international level. How is he not a womaniser and cheater? Katy Perry gains nothing from being in a relationship with Russell Brand, Brand gains everything. Immediately there's demand for him on every talk show in the US and the film offers start rolling in once executives realise the promo and crossover potential he has. Brand only discussed the Katy Perry marriage in one interview (Ellen). Which considering her audience is almost entirely female and she herself is a respected lesbian activist/comedian in a celeb marriage, anything other than positivity and his career would have ended right there. As soon as the inevitable question of Katy Perry popped up he went into monologue mode and reacted like a robot reading a carefully devised answer from his publicist. Just because Brand shagged a shed load of women doesn't mean he used them. Brand is quite open about his sexual history and how that was perceived in the media, he's very honest about it, if that's what you mean by 'admitted to sleeping with around a thousand women'. Like I say, being a bit handy pulling women and having a lot of sex does not make him someone that would necessarily 'use' a woman in the sense that you mean it. I don't remember Brand ever selling stories about his sexual exploits, I do however, remember several women going to the press. Something Brand is very open about in his book and stand up. He's aware of the persona, he mocks it, plays up to it, and isnt ashamed of it. Again, I dont know the bloke, but everything presented suggests he doesn't 'use' women. I dont ever recall Brand being outed as a 'cheater'. It may have happened, but I dont recall it in his books. I suspect if it did happen, he wouldve been pretty open about it, as he has been with most other aspects of his private life (drink, drugs etc). What film offers rolled in on the back of the relationship? Name one. He already had Sarah Marshall and Bedtime Stories, two relatively high profile supporting roles. One of those was successfull enough to lead to a semi-sequel, which was released, I think, in 2010. That film was not bank rolled cos he started seeing Perry in October 2009, unless of course you have proof otherwise? So, cmon, what film offers were made to Brand on the back of his relationship with Katy Perry? I suspect most of Brands individual promo/interview work was done in support of his film roles and stand up. Of course as part of a celebrity couple there is a crossover appeal for celeb mags etc, but I'd argue that was very seperate to the appeal and exposure he was getting for his films. So, you confirmed there that Brand has only discussed the break up in one interview, yea? So he's hardly using it to somehow raise a profile is he? If he is, he's done a fuckign shit job of it..... one fucking interview. Bravo. And, in that one interview he was positive about the relationship and about Perry, but this was all lies because he was on a daytime talk show? Or, maybe, Brand, being the spiritual person he is feels nothing but love and goodwill? Maybe. One thing I do know for sure though, is that you have no fucking idea what Brand or Perry's motive's for getting married were, or why they split up. I also know that Brand was well established in Hollywood prior to the marriage and there is no evidence that he only managed to further himself by riding Perry's coat tails.
