Well not anything.... everything! This is definitely a movie that was made with 3D in mind, rather than 'tacked on' as some might say

The scene in the corridor with Mama at the 24 min mark definitely looks like there is DNR in the mix, her face as it comes to her close up looks very smoothed over as you say. Coupled with the weird digital noise/ grain/ whatever that stuff is!

There are plenty of moments where the image looks spectacular. What a mixed bag.

Got to admit, it's freakin brilliant.

For myself who has enjoyed Judge Dredd in 2000AD, my hopes of ever seeing a quality adaptation were destroyed after the Stallone effort.

With the news of the reboot, I was not overly optimistic. I thought it would be just as bad. And I don't like 3D.

Then came the good news.

Karl Urban immediately said the helmet would stay ON.

Alex Garland was writing the script.

John Wagner approved it.

Still, I wasn't able to see it in the movies, so i pre-ordered the blu-ray.

I watched it last Friday and I was in awe. A brutal and uncompromising adaptation. No attempt to water down the title character, he was just as brutal as the comics which launched him.

Yes, the budget was limiting, in respect of the scope of the city, but that just added to the gritty feel of the movie. It also made sure this didn't appear as just another Blade Runner dystopia clone.

It's a shame that it's low return will rule out a sequel. Had this been released any other time of last year, it would have been bigger, but other comic book movies diminished it's potential.

There's not many movies that will be considered as cult hits, however, this will be one.

Thanks to Karl Urban and team, you did well.

Great to hear you enjoyed it mate! It definitely is a superb adaption and one as you say, is on the road to becoming a cult film. In my review i said it was like Dredd via City of God and a still stand by that. Its a brutal, unflinching and uncompromising film with balls.

Saw it again on the weekend on DVD after seeing it in the cinema last year.
Unbridled fun in the vein of Verhoeven action films gone by.
A nice trim running time as well, only too rare these days.

Great film - Urban is almost perfect as Dredd, Headey is menacing as Ma-Ma and the low budget look grounds it in the sort of reality that you just wouldn't get with big CGI - although a few more $$ could have provided just a bit of polish to the existing fx.
This really was a lot of fun to watch (despite the gritty grimness of it all!), and probably the closest thing to Robocop (still the best 'Dredd' film) I've seen.
Slender runtime too, no fat on this beast (slo-mo scenes reasonably excepted!).

It's actually shots from the Blu Ray release that people have been displeased with, no one is really unhappy with the DVD.

Finally watched this last night. I thought it was ... pretty good. I preferred The Raid. Sure, this may have been written / shot first, but I saw The Raid first, and it was a more effective story than this one. There was nothing in this film that really surprised me. Solid entertainment, no more.

Finally watched Dredd 3d Blu ray plus watched the 2d Version awesome film, but like other people said, film is very grainy in places. Infact my other half asked me if it was a pirate copy. Which is isn't.

It's a good time movie, very dry writing, very violent, a few nice hints to the comics even if a lot of the straight up humour is absent Dredd is still a funny guy in the right kind of ...total jerk way. It looks very cheap in a few places but thats not a real issue I guess. I'd have preferred a little more sci-fi in the world like robots and flying riot wagons or whatever but it's a small complaint considering the scale of the movie.

As for the sequel, how it that not possible when total garbage like Resident Evil gets churned out every year?

Can anyone say if the disc is supposed to have two longish documentaries on? (I say long-ish I mean a bit longer than the handful of chopped up interviews that were already on youtube months ago) I read there would be

"Mega-City Masters: 35 Years of 'Judge Dredd' (14 min) " and "Day of Chaos: The Visual Effects of 'Dredd' (15 min)"

....but I don't see them

No! It'll ruin your viewing experience....depending on quality of speed though. But this film deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible. The soundtrack alone deserves big fucking speakers.

Me too.

Just about to watch it again. Shame it's probably not going to get a sequel, it deserves one.

Makes me wanna pick up some Dredd comics aswell...The character is very cool.
