The best Stanley Kubrick film and has all his hallmarks, also features the best perfomances of Nicole Kidman and underated Tom Cruise.
It also has some really scary moments and music.
Highly Recommended.

I actually thought that this was s***, I think this was the sort of film that Tom and Nicole will deny doing.....

Cruise actually rates the film as one of his finest. He said so on the Actors Studio, and I agree.

Cruise at his rare best. A well textured world built from the ingenious mind of Kubrick featuring dimensional characters that are tactfully not overly explored, creating a degree of intrigue in all it's characters. It also plays a wonderfly unhurried tempo that enhances its emotionally ridden and personal love plot that journey from Bill Harford (Cruise).

FB!!!How could you!!! This is a film I hold near and dear to my heart-Stanley's dark, hypnotic swan-song, years in the making, eerily prescient of Tom and Nicole's real-life problems, and you tear it up with just a few glib words...You're so in trouble-I would hate to be in your pants-er, shoes, I meant shoes, right now! You've left me feeling tired and emotional, so I think I'll toddle off to bed...How could you? Oh, you're in so much trouble...

..watching this amazing film for the umpteenth time tonight has reminded me (not that i needed reminding) what a truly brilliant visionary Kubrick was and how much this industry really misses him.

My god, this film is just stunning visually. For example, when Cruise is being followed, the sequence is unnerving, but also gorgeous to look at. I love Kubrick for his eye for detail, and his uncanny ability to make everything look so damn good.
But. As with quite a lot of his films, it's about half an hour too long. And I don't think I'm being unfair in saying, rather self indulgent, to put it politely.
I'm clearly an ignoramus, but I did come away from the film thinking WTF? And that my bum was quite sore...

I rewatched this after reading an extremely convincing essay highlighting the giveaways that 90% of the film is Bill's dream (and the ramifications of that) and realized this film is absolutely amongst Kubrick's best.

A fairly ponderous, plodding and self indulgent film that is neither an exciting erotic thriller or deep psychological drama. Kubrick definitely has an eye for the visual and his visuals are superb, the film is richly textured and flavoured. Sydney Pollack also delivers a great performance and is the most convincing in showing a sexually tormented individual. However like most of Kubrick's work it is emotionally very cold, and to say they were married at the time, Cruise and Kidman are not a convincing couple, neither any good and showing intimacy nor arguments very well. Plus nothing much happens it ambles and shambles before getting to the intriguing sequence in the mansion and then interest is soon lost as it continues to descend into endless scenes of characters talking and talking and talking, and talking which isn't particularly engaging either. Upon rewatch it loses some of the mysteriousness and eerie edge that it has upon first viewing.

Kubrick's swansong may not be a fitting finish to all of the great man's work, but it most definitely has all of his calling cards- it's exquisitely directed, flawlessly edited, breathtakingly acted, and altogether not-as-bad-as-you've-heard. Viewed as the lesser Kubrick picture in amongst his iconic collection, Eyes Wide Shut is nonetheless a unqiue, stark, poetic, and altogether whimsical vision with a potent sexual charge and a palpable air of mystery. It's pacing is admittedly quite considered, even for a Kubrick film, and there are some instances when it feels like style over substance. For the most part, however, this is dark romantic-erotic thriller with a moral compass like a brick and a story that is always slow, but always rewarding
