It's the first time she's talked about so it is kind of new news.
I'm more concerned about her and her brother's transition from the promising, edgy film-makers who made Bound to the dull, music video hacks who made everything else.

I actually didn't know about it, I was checking out the Wachiowskis on IMDB and saw one of them was called Lana but never twigged why one of the bros had a girl's name.

I thought it was fairly well known! Good for Lana Wachowski I say - she's being who is and it's great that she evidently has a supportive family around her.
