I fucking HATE 3D.It adds absolutely NOTHING to the movie watching experience besides the extra cost of a cinema ticket. Its just a cynical attempt by the studios to squeeze more money out of the punters. It wouldnt be so bad if we got more choice as to what version of a film we want to see. There is no screening of Dredd anywhere near I live so I'm forced to see it in 3D cos I really want to see the film.

3D at home is an even bigger joke in my opinion.

The problem is that most of the films you listed are a bit shite and you seem to be buying them for the sake of it. This is your choice, of course, but it does seem like a collosal waste of money and enthusiasm.

Yeah, there are no 2D showings near me either, so I'm giving it a miss at the cinema.

Fuck me, I really hope 3D - both in the home and in the cinema - isn't the future. Because to me that means that 3D will become the only way to watch new films. And that is, quite frankly, rather depressing to me.

2D Blu-ray is already a good enough medium in which to watch films; 3D is nothing but bells and whistles. I mean, what does 3D add that makes it worthwhile? Nothing.

In short: 3D can fuck off and die in a car crash.

99% of all movies are "2D".

And the 1% of movies that are 3D are available in "2D".

So if you don't like 3D I don't really see the point in moaning about it. It's not like you don't have anything to watch that isn't in 3D.

I see your point but I was moaning about suggestion of 3D becoming the future.

I was being tongue in cheek with the title of this thread. The future will be both formats giving viewers more option on how they can watch movies.

Well i can afford it. Also, explain how this is a colossal waste of money and enthusiasm if i'm enjoying them? I dont critique you for the movies you choose to buy, different people like different things!

Yeah, right.

I'm presuming you have to wear grey tinted glasses for this 3D nonsense. How much colour saturation do you lose if any?

3D for sports viewing in the home could be the future. I didn't watch this year's Wimbledon final in 3D but I did see last years, and it was terrific. It felt like I was looking through a window and I got a much better view of the trajectory of the tennis ball and the depth of the courts etc.

Also, depending on the film, sometimes it just looks nice. What else does it really need to add?

Yes, you've made that clear. Like I said it's your choice.

I'm sure you are enjoying them. Doesn't make the expense any less absurd. But I refuse to believe you're enjoying Step-Up in any dimension, let alone 3D. Unless you have a teenage daughter or an undemanding female partner I can't quite see why you'd buy that for any other reason other than the 3D, which seems silly, like you're willing to sit through any old shite for your indulgence.

quote:

Well, you don't know what movies I buy. If you choose to start a thread that focuses specifically on you showing off a collection then you can't complain if people do critique, especially when you know how divisive 3D is. Do you expect us to sycophantically bombard you with platitudes and shocked gasps of envy? And if you're being tongue-in-cheek then what is the point of the thread anyway?

Yes, it is your choice. But judging by the titles you've bought it just seems to be an indulgence rather than a discerning appreciation of actual film quality. And this does nothing to convince me otherwise that 3D is just a niche fad, an expensive garnish, nothing more and nothing less.

But, never-mind. As you were.

Let's not digress, that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand really! No one is forcing me to buy the movies i do, it's my choice and has nothing to do with anyone else (I mean this in a nice way!) Let's just stick to discussing 3D Blu Rays and home 3D viewing here! If people only have something negative to post, maybe they can find a thread where they can say something positive, there's too much negativity around in general anyway

Kind of like someone watching a film because their favourite actor is in it.

So what you're saying is people should keep negative opinions to themselves and only post positive, happy fun-time stuff?

I'm sorry, Mr Back Seat Mod, but that's not how discussion forums work. When you kick open a thread about a divisive subject like 3D, expect people arguing against the format.

Forums are there as an outlet for people to express opinions. Both positive and negative.

Eeeesh, just trying to make things a little more positive!

In answer to your previous question, colour saturation; that depends on the movie but obviously settings can be adjusted to get the look exactly how you want.

Erm, perfectly calm, thanks. You not going to address any of the points I raised? The question about why you have Step Up in particluar demands immediate attention.

Thing is I love blu-ray and I buy a few a month. If I could afford it I would buy more. But it isn't just the attraction of high-def goodness that compels me to part with my cash. I have to like/love the film properly, otherwise it just seems a little self-defeating. And there are many fine arguments for blu-ray. I have yet to encounter any good ones for 3D blu-ray. But, I know, free country an' all.....

3D gaming? Now that I'm interested in.

But you never know I could still be convinced by this. I was a late convert to blu-ray and even DVD - although much of that was down to expense at the time.

Well i can afford it.

Yes, you've made that clear. Like I said it's your choice.

Also, explain how this is a colossal waste of money and enthusiasm if i'm enjoying them?

I'm sure you are enjoying them. Doesn't make the expense any less absurd. But I refuse to believe you're enjoying Step-Up in any dimension, let alone 3D. Unless you have a teenage daughter or an undemanding female partner I can't quite see why you'd buy that for any other reason other than the 3D, which seems silly, like you're willing to sit through any old shite for your indulgence.

quote:

I dont critique you for the movies you choose to buy, different people like different things!

Calm down dear

I was joking! I'm sure you're fine dude. My GF likes Step Up yes, i don't think there's anything wrong with that. Think of it as a guilty pleasure. On a side note, the 3D is absolutely excellent in that, being that it was shot native.
