RIP, Mr. Duncan

That is a shock. I didn't know he had a heart attack, but he looked full of beans when he went to Scotland with Craig Ferguson earlier in the year. Rest in peace.

Really shocked. RIP.

Great performance in The Green Mile and he was a lot of fun in Armageddon.

Very sad news - he was excellent in The Green Mile and a very enjoyable film presence generally. Very shocked and saddened by this news.

I thought they'd given the impression he was recovering from what was apparently a pretty severe heart attack - sad to see the hopes of recovery were just that.

He always seemed, along with the cast, that he was enjoying himself on Whole Nine Yards and he was wonderful in the film. As well as one of the few high points in Green Mile, for me.

Really shocked by the news - I always had a soft spot for him, a really likeable actor.

Yeah, he was the reason why I watched The Finder which wasn't a good show, really, otherwise.

Sad news. I liked him a lot. A charismatic man and memorable in all of his roles. He had a phenomenal voice too.

Clarke was my absolute favourite, and finding out about the other two at more or less the same time is just frankly depressing.

Wow, this has really hit me kind of hard MCD was one of my favourite actors when I was younger due to me loving The Green Mile and Daredevil so much. I was watching TGM with some friends just the other day and we were discussing how much we liked him. Very sad news, R.I.P.

I just watched all the Craig Ferguson shows filmed in Scotland that aired earlier this year. MCD was in 3 of the 5 shows and, in hindsight, watching them is actually quite sad. Especially when he interacts with the public like kids from CF's old school for some reason.

This is really quite a shock. Very sad news. He had a great screen presence and I enjoyed seeing him in anything. RIP.

What a sad way to start the day. He always seemed like such a genuinely nice guy and had likeability and screen prescence in bucketloads. RIP big guy, gone way too young.

I didn't even realise he had a heart attack.

He was always great to watch, whilst I'm sure he took his craft seriously what I always enjoyed about his performances was that element of "I can't believe I get paid to do this" he always came across as someone who was just really enjoying himself.

RIP MCD

Sad news at such a young age.
I always loved it when he joined in singing "leaving on a jet plane" in Armageddon.
Not seen him in much in recent years, am I also right in saying he was Notorious B.I.G.'s bodyguard when he got shot?

He apparently switched assignments just before the shooting, but he was due to guard BIG the day he was killed.

RIP dude.
One of my favourite scenes of his was the medical testing in Armaggeddon, where he jumps up on the table and starts dancing.
A great actor and will be missed.

This is rather shocking news. I most recently saw him in the tv show The Finder and he seemed like such a vital and healthy person. What a great shame.

Really sad to hear this, always a pleasure to watch be it in a Two & Half Men episode or The Green Mile, thoughts go out to his family.

Seemed like such a lovely big fella. Unlike many I actually really like Daredevil and on the DVD special features there's good fun to be had watching him pissing around with Affleck behind the scenes. Broke my heart in Green Mile.

Remember folks the depth of our sympathies must be in strict proportion to the quantity of his talents. Got it?

Yeah, me too.  His portrayal of John Coffey really was something special, and he was cruelly robbed at Oscar time by Michael Caine IMO.  I'll always remember the look of wonder in his face while watching Fred and Ginger onscreen, and the pain and suffering in his "I'm tired, boss" speech.  In interviews he did come across as someone who couldn't believe his luck; humble and joking.  I remember an Empire interview at the time of Planet of the Apes where he was injured onset and rushed to emergency, still in his gorilla makeup, where he promptly scared the crap out of most of the ones waiting to be seen before letting it slip that he was the guy they saw in The Green Mile

On this morning's radio they were saying that he decided to go into acting after the realisation that he could have been in the line of fire at the Biggie shooting if not for a change of assignment that day.  What a pity he couldn't have enjoyed a longer career.

RIP MCD

I was so shocked when i heard this last night from a news source on FB. To be honest i thought he was younger than 54 - like late 40s - but its still no age.
When you think of him - or when i do - its that big beaming genuine smile that i see and i guess thats a nice way to remember him.

This may be a bit of a quirky thought but the other day me and a fellow aged geek were talking about future Marvel movies and Actors that could play various roles in them ....... i thought Michael Clarke Duncan would have been perfect - in heavy makeup - to play Thanos in the next Avengers. But now obviously that idea is mute.

R.I.P. Big Man.

Obviously I never knew him but he seemed to be the nicest fellow you could ever be intimidated by.

Or perhaps the most intimidating guy who's actually incredibly nice.

RIP to the big man. 54 is no age.

You'd be surprised how many people actually like Daredevil, I enjoyed the Cinema Cut and the Directors Cut was actually a really well written film. I can remember as someone who grew up reading the comic books bemoaning MCD getting the part of Kingpin as the character in the books was white (I'm aware that sounds racist, but I'd have probably done the same thing if the character in the books was black and they got say Ron Perlman to play him), but it has to be said I think he got the part spot on, and he's one of the few actors where I can't think of a bad performance by him.

One of the highlights of MCD and Craig Ferguson in Scotland earlier this year for Ferguson's chat show- click
