I had an idea for this one and whilst I have got the picture it is not technically correct with the title I would use to link it to Autumn. I'm back to hoping for reagaining some mobility so I can go back to my first idea.

Is not a bit early for Autumn? Going to struggle with this as everything around here is still very green!

To be honest I thought of the title last week when it was starting to get cold so was thinking of darker nights with maybe frosty or misty mornings etc.

We're now in the grip of an Indian summer with temps expected in high 20's at the weekend

I'll have a word with Chief today and see if I can amend the title....

It's a great theme and maybe we can all do it justice later in the year

Hey, no, definitely no killjoy!!   I'd rather change it to get more entries   (Also, just thought, hozay living in the paradise that he does will just be coming in to Spring!  I'm sure he can be inventive when we get round to fully appreciating Autumn (around the end of Sept according to Google!)

fully on board with the re-think, probably going to be better to go with a different theme.

I've changed the title to "Buildings"

So there I was, camped out in my garden all night, new camera at the ready, focused on 1 leaf, just hanging on, ready to drop, and wait....................................

So, anyway, a token offering, taken from up the Empire State last month.
The scary thing is the bottom of all the buildings you can see are still miles above the ground.

For Empire, from Empire.

Thanks for the thought Hobbitonlass :) , yes it's starting to warm up here. I do have a stack of Autumny shots from Japan ( we don't get the Autumn colours at all in this part of Aus ) but I've been making an effort to take new photos for these comps. Buildings should be a good one with hopefully lots of entries.

Whoever goes to Yemen and takes any shot from Sana'a, Jibla, Al Mahwit or Hajjah, no matter how poorly framed, will get my vote.

Just giving suggestions for 25 pts.

A trinity of light.

From right to left:
The natural light of the sun;
The man-made light of the street lamp;
And the spiritual light of the cathedral.

Also, I should get extra points for this being of my workplace.

Nice photo Homer, although you should lose points for saying right to left instead of left to right.
It confuses me when I haven't got my special gloves on

Yeah but right to left ends with the most significant one - ie, the one that isn't a light in the literal sense, but in the metaphorical sense.

Thanks, though.

right, added both yours in as i saw them.

I'm struggling for a subject in this one; I'm half tempted to make the effort to pop into Central Bristol to get the council offices opposite Homer's one.

Ha, I keep forgetting who lives in Bristol...

The council house is nice. It amazes me the people I see with their back to the cathedral, taking a photo of the council house... I have nice photos of the council house and College Green taken from the cathedral tower, during the Occupy movement. Well, I say "nice"...

I managed to get a good few which I have had some difficulty choosing between but this is the one I decided on:

To a Great Height

The other ones will probably end up on the photo thread.

Right, I've added all the new shots to the top post - Welcome Simon, by the way.

and here's my submission, I might have popped it in the photo thread but I don't think I've used it for a competition

Hereford Cathedral

Bristol's nicer.

yeah, but we've got the Mappa Mundi so

Interesting* thing about the churches in Bristol, specifically St Mary's in Redcliffe - the process for making lead shot (for shotguns) came about due to a fire melting the lead on the roof; somebody noted that as the fire melted the roof, it fell and solidified by the time it hit the ground, forming perfect little spheres that lay in the ground. from that they did the same process allowing the drops to fall into a water bath. Previous grape shot was (I believe) cast in molds which limited the size of the shot.

*may not be actually interesting

St Mary's Redcliffe is also the tallest building in Bristol still, and was built more than an arrow's range from the city wall so it couldn't be used for attacking the city.

So there.

My Cathedral's bigger than either of your Cathedrals and could beat them both up.

Just gone to put my picture up and realised that it is on my external hard drive which is currently not attached to my PC as I have lent the power lead and connector to a work colleague

Should get it back during the week so will definitely post something this week!
