They dont make 'em like they used too!

I've tried to pick the most well known from the black and white era...

My choice - Gene Tierney

Which film noirs would you be including Bette Davis for?

Peggy Cummins maybe? Or the even more insane Ann Savage?

Gene Tieney was a stunningly beautiful woman and a fine actress, but I'd hardly call her a femme fatale. In those noirs that I've seen her in, she always played the good woman who was wronged, rather than the bad girl.
My vote goes to Barbara Stanwyck, if for no other reason than her stunning performance in my all time favourite noir, Double Indemnity. Honourable mention to Ava Gardner who played a scheming, manipulative, treacherous bitch so well in The Killers.

Gene Tierney was very much a femme fatale, just watch 'Leave her to Heaven'.

Fair point. To my shame I'd forgotten about that one. However, I still think that she was at her most effective playing more sympathetic roles, such as in Dragonwyck, Whirlpool and of course the marvellous Laura.
