I've not seen any of the films listed so far but those Simpsons episodes are awesome. I hope there's more of those to come.

36. City Slickers

This is an enjoyable comedy with three friends who are all in the midst of a mid-life crisis go on a cattle ride holiday. As with most Hollywood feel-good comedies it works best when the comedians are allowed to play up the laughs as opposed to the serious moments. Jack Palance is immense fun in his Oscar winning role.

35. What About Bob?

Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss play off each other well in Frank Oz's comedy about an uptight psychiatrist and the patient who can't live without him. It's a funny set-up and Oz allows the situation to take its time in releasing the comedy as it gets increasingly funny as it goes along. One of Murray's best comedic roles.

34. Fried Green Tomatoes

Better than your usual girly movie, this adaptation of the popular novel follows two stories of female friendships. The cast all give excellent performances particularly Jessica Tandy and Kathy Bates but I think the film could have dared to highlight the lesbian angle a little more in the flashback scenes. Period production of '20s and '30s is expertly done.

33. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

I'm not much of a fan of Star Trek so I've only seen bits and bobs, I think the good things about the movies are is that they stand alone and you don't need to know too much about the ST universe. This is probably the best I've seen of the franchise, it's a jokey action packed adventure and was the last film for the original cast. All perform well and Christopher Plummer actually gives a pretty fantastic performance as an evil Klingon.

32. The Doors

Oliver Stone puts the life of Jim Morrison up on the screen in this effective depiction of the decadent lifestyle of the singer throughout the '60s and '70s. Val Kilmer is well cast but Morrison remains an enigma. The film probably says more about the director than it does about the man he's portraying. At times pretentious other times brilliant - in particular in the recreation of the Doors concerts.

LA Story is good, What About Bob? is better.

Undiscovered Country is one of my all-time favourites so I think it�s a superb choice.

31. Boyz N the Hood

It's been ripped off about as many times as Pulp Fiction has and it still is to this day with endless DTV movies but taken on it's own it's still a very powerful and effective crime drama. Set in the slums of LA it depicts the tough decisions young black men have to take in their lives. It's impressive that director John Singleton was only 23 when he made the film. Cast are good, especially Laurence Fishburne as the father.

30. The Simpsons - Blood Feud (#2.22)

Mr. Burns: I could crush him like an ant, but it would be too easy. No, revenge is a dish best served cold. I'll bide my time until... oh, what the hell, I'll just crush him like an ant.

Mr. Burns needs a blood transfusion but the only one with the same blood type is... Bart Simpson! This leads to a hilarious turn of events as Homer expects a massive payout as a thank you from his boss. When he doesn't get it, he takes his revenge. This episode contains one of my all time favourite jokes from the series when Homer goes to the post office to reclaim the letter he wrote to Mr. Burns. It also contains the first appearance of that massive head thing that always appears now and again in the basement.

29. The Simpsons - Homer Defined (#3.5)

Luann Van Houten: Well, Marge, the other day, Milhouse told me my meatloaf "sucks." He must have gotten that from your little boy, because they certainly don't say that on TV.

One of the best running gags in the show is that Homer doesn't have a clue what he does in the power plant. Here totally by accident he saves the town from a meltdown but is soon found out to be a fraud after a short term of being claimed as a hero. This is a brilliant Homer-centric episode (he even gets added to the dictionary) but Bart and Marge's subplot with Milhouse and his mum his also good.

City Slickers is solid and What About Bob is one of Murray's more underated films.

Don't care for the Star Trek entry.

Never seen Boyz in the Hood.

28. The Simpsons - When Flanders Failed (#3.3)

Homer: I don't care if Ned Flanders IS the nicest guy in the world. He's a jerk. End of story.

Homer's continual feud with neighbour Ned continued in this episode. Ned seems to be oblivious to Homer's nastiness which is much of the appeal of their relationship but here Homer takes it too far by apparently cursing Ned's new venture into owning a left-handed shop. Meanwhile Bart pretends to attend karate class. Again both stories work well and Homer gets a very funny moment at Ned's BBQ.

That episode always makes me think that sometimes Homer Simpson can be a complete git. Good episode though.

27. The Simpsons - Treehouse of Horror II (#3.7)

Mr. Burns: Oh, Smithers, I was wrong to play God. Life is precious, not a thing to be toyed with. Now take out that brain and flush it down the toilet!

The second in the Halloween based series. I like Treehouse of Horror, it throws out all the rules of the show and just allows it to become very wacky. The shows creators are clearly big film buff's and there's plenty of homages within this series. Here includes the monkey hand that creates wishes, Bart becoming ominpotent and Mr Burns creating a robot. I particularly like the last episode with Homer's brain being put in the robot and the final shot where Homer awakes from his dream his great comedy.

As much as I love this film, it was really heavily influenced by Cooley High, so I think that's going to be more where that lasting influence comes from. Especially as Cooley High was such an important part of black American cinema.

26. The Simpsons - Homer vs. Lisa and the Eighth Commandment (#2.13)

Homer: Something's wrong with that kid. She's so... moral. Why can't she be more like... well, not like Bart, but there has to be a happy medium.

The show loved to have some pointed satire at cable programming and that gag first appeared when Homer took a chipped cable box to the horror of Lisa's morals. Homer organizes a night for all his friends to come watch a boxing fight but he eventually does what's right by his little girl. Aww. I think the irony of this episode for me personally was I'm sure our family had a chipped cable box when I first saw this!

25. The Simpsons - Three Men and a Comic Book (#2.21)

Comic Book Guy: Friggin' kids.

Bart loses his cool hysterically as he, Milhouse and Martin become obsessed with a comic book. This is one of the best Bart centred stories of the early seasons and includes the introduction of the loveably geeky Comic Book Guy. He looks like I imagine people who spend all their time writing on movie forums would look like

24. The Simpsons - The Way We Was (#2.12)

Homer: English? Who needs that? I'm never going to England.

The first flashback of the show adds another dimension to Homer and Marge's relationship by showing us how they first got together. The show once again brings more levels to the family within 22 mins than most sitcoms can dream to manage. It's not soppy but it is cute seeing the two heads of the family at a younger age and Jon Lovitz is brilliant as the horribly sleazy Artie Ziff.

Thanks for the encouragement guys but trying to narrow it down to just 50 would kill me

I'll try though! And there have been a few good episodes here and there but the standard of quality dropped really badly.

23. The Simpsons - Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? (#2.13)

Rainer Wolfcastle as McBain: Right now, I'm thinking of starting another meeting. In bed!

Danny DeVito provides one of the best guest spots on the early seasons as Homer's step-brother. Homer proceeds to ruin the poor guys life despite trying to connect with the Simpsons. It's a nice episode that shows Homer does have a big heart under all that stupidity which makes him so appealing and the inability to connect with his brother the more heartbreaking. Bit of a sad ending but DeVito returned later down the line.

22. The Simpsons - Lisa's Substitute (#2.19)

Mr. Bergstrom: Mrs. Krabappel, are you trying to seduce me?

Another fantastic guest star arrives with Dustin Hoffman's sweet turn as Lisa's substitute teacher who she immediately attaches to. It's a lovely Lisa-centric episode which also expands on the relationship she has with her father. Mrs. Krabappel threatens to steal the show however, including her Graduate reference.

21. The Ren & Stimpy Show (TV series)

This bonkers animation has rightfully picked up a bit of a cult following over the years. It has lead the path for other animations such as Spongebob and South Park and to this day still remains a delightfully obscure and very funny show. Happy happy joy joy!
