Star Trek Into Darkness has now reached the $200 million mark at the U.S domestic box office.Total worldwide gross up to nearly $380 million. Can it break the $400 million barrier before the end of its theatrical run?

After Earth drops a massive 59% on its second weekend in the U.S.Total gross so far only $46 million. Is it safe to call this the John Carter of 2013?

trek will break 400 easy - probably do 450 or even more

yes it looks like AE is the C&A/JC/BS of 2013 (unless forgien BO bails it out in a big way)

The Purge has taken over $36m over its opening weekend (almost $40m if you include International cash). And it cost $3 million to make......I guess that's a hit......

The Internship starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, which cost $58 million to make, took only $18m in its opening weekend. It landed at 4th place behind Now You See Me, Fast 6 and The Purge (at number one). That is not a hit......

So if MOS doesnt make the projected $100 million over its opening weekend, will Hood Man start a thread entitled '' Is Man Of Steel a flop ? ''

Thursday and Friday was apparently $56m (according to Forbes) and Saturday is probably the biggest day for gross, as such it is not too big a supposition. Friday alone was $44m.

They are stating, though, that next weekend's box office is the telling of whether it is a "quick kill blockbuster" or a longer term hit.

Man of Steel opening:

US: $113m ($125 inc Thurs)
Overseas: $71m.

I'd say the ceiling for this is $600m WW.

Yet, surprisingly, it is still a bit of a disappointment for Paramount domestically. It's making its money, though, but they planned on getting more at home.

Also, last Summer's R rated Trek movie?

And Prometheus has more exploration and boldly going where no man has gone before in it.

It's not beating Prometheus yet - that movie cost at least 50M less than STID and made 400M.

Why are we talking about Star Trek and Prometheus in the same breath? That's like talking about The Expendables and Scott Pilgrim in the oh wait a minute...

Sci-fi movies out at the same time of the year, with the same writer is I think where we are making comparisons.

Yikes - Bryan Singer is going to have to pull it out the bag for Days of Future Past!

I doubt he has anything to worry about there.

Oh, I wouldn't have thought so (despite seemingly every X-verse character appearing in it) but he needs a big, big hit.
